It needs a lot of optimization, but you get the idea.
Forward movement makes a kind of interesting effect, but when I move left or right while holding down the "up arrow" and then release the keys I get a strange kind of teleporting effect. It's kind of jarring...
Is this maybe a video problem on my end? I'm using a Radeon 9800 Pro with the latest drivers.
Nope, like I said it needs a bunch of optimization. A lerp on the x axis is needed.
Actually I'm not sure if you can have horizontal movement with vertical on tiled background, but you could have the ship do that instead.

Cool! I still don't understand the mode7 events that much but sure would be awesome to make a game like this.
