Big Smoke Effect

Here's a simple but pretty cool looking window-filling smoke effect which uses two large sprites and a gradient blended together and animated using offset to scroll the smoke and warp create waves in the clouds. I'm looking at possibilities to shrink this and use it for an in-game effect.

eah, that's what I had in mind, or screensaver or something like that. The fire one, imagine that with a nice black logo in the foreground, that'd be a cool title screen.

I just realised, maybe you weren't seeing the effect as intended. What kind of effect did everyone else see? The one I intended was definitely smoky looking, but if the framerate mode isn't on V-sync the effect goes kinda weird. If it's on Unlimited, it just looks like a rippling gradient thing, more like water than smoke.

It looks more smokey than watery to me. It doesn't billow like smoke, but then again it doesn't wave or ripple like water either.

It's still a really cool looking effect regardless.

If it runs at a different speed when you go to Unlimited framerate mode, that's a bad thing - it means your game is framerate dependent. And since V-sync runs at a different framerate for different monitors, the effect will be running at different speeds. See TimeDelta.
