Ghostbusters Engine: Proton Pack Test

Hey, I started making a Ghostbusters engine just for the hell of it.

So, here they are, the very first steps....

Loving the sound.

You could add bone-animated walking feet under the guy

Remember to destroy particles once they go offscreen / offlayout

Anyone have an idea how to make the stream look more like a stream.

What I'm currently using are just little, round, colored sprites and I shoot them out in quick succession so I can us the sine behavior.

But, it just doesn't look entirely right...

Looks enough like a beam to me... but I guess you could make each of the "particles" emmit more particles of thier own, with an additive effect... that would make it look nice and beamy.

I just dropped the sprites completely and just went with particle effects.

I think that I pretty much nailed the look and feel of the proton beam.

Little better, but that sound effect needs a bit of volume reduction on the end.

Its making my teeth rattle.

Ha yeah that is a little nicer.

If you want a true "beam" then you could always check out the Laser Whip made by Lucid. I think it may have an effect like what you are really looking for, though not so sure on how hard it would be to implement... I haven't checked out the cap admittedly.

Yeah that would work if you put a sine movement on the middle part, then add another like that one that starts the opposite direction.

I tried out the laser whip thing, but I just couldn't get it to work like I wanted.

Plus, since I added the light effects, the beams looking pretty good.(Although, I must admit that I've been looking at it a lot lately, so my impression may be a little off.... )

Here's the new version. I added a big green dot with some very early capture effect.

I'm working on another approach, though....
