Yes, it's free, you can find the full version for download on the site. Sorry to hear you got done on e-bay - maybe you can get a refund? It's either legal for them to do it by some loophole (they probably word it carefully that they're selling you a physical CD, which just so happens to have Construct on it), or it's not legal, but there's nothing anybody can really do. Being a volunteer project we can't really follow up on this stuff

But yeah, Construct is free - as in, you are free to do anything with creations you make in Construct. Construct itself uses some libraries that prohibit selling, however, so it is illegal to sell Construct itself.

Did you get a physical package (CD with Construct, manuals etc.)? Then in that case you may have paid for the medium etc., not Construct itself (as the seller may state).

I didn't think this was actually true...? I thought Construct could be sold if the devs wanted to. Although I vaguely recall something about some UIS library being involved.

Yes, you've been tricked. Construct is completely free. As Ashley said, they probably worded the fine print such that they're technically not breaking the law, but if it was unclear it was probably against eBay's rules about deceptive listings. Contact eBay, and also the seller.
