  • I was just wondering if this is planned or otherwise considered to be a feature of Construct 2.0. We need to have true 3D if we Construct is to be of competition with other game development tools such as Game Maker 8.

Do you think 3D would be a good addition or should Construct be the perfect 2D game maker?

    Discuss.

  • True 3d?.... no

  • True 3d?.... no

    h...

  • Construct is focused to 2D games (with some 3D effects as enhancing), if you want 3D why not using a focused 3D engine? Blender has one that is kind of easy to use.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Or try Unity3D. It is free if you don't plan on making big buck with the game.

  • I have a question: Is it possible to create a side-scrolling game using 3D models? That means the game is still 2D but it uses animated 3D models. Will it still be classified as a 2D game or 3D?

  • no, it's not possible...but David said something about importing 3d models feature, it may be in the next build.

  • Uhmm actually you can take the animation, set up the right angle and save each frame to make a 3d looking 2d animation :O

  • no, it's not possible...but David said something about importing 3d models feature, it may be in the next build.

    9.86?

Of course it's possible to create the illusion of 3D models in a 2D platformer.

The Donkey Kong Country games did that years ago on the SNES (love those games), as did many others, albeit not as well as the DKC games.

Render your 3D models in Max and import them.

    Simple as that.

I'm looking forward to the OBJ importer, if it happens, but don't expect that to open up Construct to full 3D games.

At best, we'll have control over 3D meshes from a single 2D perspective, and although that will open up a lot of possibilities, you'll still need to look elsewhere if you want to create 3D games.

    Krush.

  • well, i thought he wanted to import 3d models in the games. I am also waiting for the OBJ importer but it won't be of any use to me, can't model anything

  • If anything, I expect simple 3D games will be available to create on Construct, something simple such as a 3D platformer like the Pandemonium games

    Pandemonium 1 here

    <img src="http://www.abandonware-paradise.fr/Gifs/Abandonware/Pandemonium.png">

But I don't expect there will be animated models anytime soon or ever for Construct 1 or 2, I hope you will still load non animated models to create a landscape for 3D maps that are not just cubes using 3D Box but the objects like player, enemy or item and everything else will be a sprite, am I asking too much? I've always wanted to create a 3D platformer but due to I have no knowledge of programming I can't create a 3D engine, let alone a basic 2D game with programming.

there will still be some animated things in 3D however like a door/floating platforms that slides up or down or left or right based on the X/Y/Z axis configured trough the events.
