How do I make an effect that puts blood over a platform and cuts of the rest of blood sprite?

I want to make an effect where when the player dies, blood gets spawned and then only the part of the blood sprite that is over the platform should be visible and the part the would look like it is standing in air should be hidden. I've been trying it with blend modes but it doesn't work, I probably did something wrong.

I recommend you to use a tiled background object where you put your blood image. Then, you can cut this image as you want if you fix a size less than the original image size. If you use a tilemap or a grid for your platform game, you can easily the distance between the "blood" tilemap and the border of the platform.
