What's the purpose of the Dummy layout?

I'm still learning about C3 and I'm curious. I've seen several videos where people create an essentially unused / dummy layout and put all of their game's graphical assets onto it.

What's the point of doing this? Is this like a caching thing, load everything into memory at once?

It is so you have a default instance of an object from which all created instances take their stats

I'm not sure I still really understand, sorry! D: So what happens if you don't have a dummy layout with all your stuff in it?

Its for object control.

You can not edit an object unless its on a layout.

The dummy layouts are for when you need to edit objects, but not have then on a running layout.

Otherwise you would need to destroy the objects that you don't need on the start of the layout.

Lets say that you have a sprite with flash behaviour on it.

If you don't have it on a layout, you can not set the flash properties and will have to do it after create the instance using events.
