  • Hello,

I'm looking for some game creating software that doesn't require coding.

I have tried (for decades!) to learn coding but I never get further.

So i'm now looking at options like Construct 3, normally I'd stay away as

I utterly dislike the whole 'subscription' model as you never own it, only rent

it. but as most have sadly gone down this route, I have little choice.

    My questions are:-

1: Can I export my game as a windows 11 exe file?

(I have no interest in using html5)

2: is it easy-ish to get to grips with the basics?

3: does it come with a pdf manual I can print out for myself?

4: is it a good choice for making 80's arcade style games?

5: is the community large? meaning is there a lot of tutorials?

    Thank you for your time!

    Ron

  • Yes to all five questions--however...

If you a write a game of any size you will need to do some programmer-like thinking about things like variables, and scope and the like. It is ideal for writing a 2d 80s game--but you will have to do work on it.

  • There is a free trial, and you should be able to complete both official beginners tutorials with it. Give the tutorials a try and you'll probably know if it's suitable for you before buying.

  • Thank you very much!

I'm going to try and free version for a while and see if I get

    on with it.

Does Construct 3 ever go on sale? I'd like the yearly sub but it's quite expensive.

  • I haven't seen it go on sale. A good reason for paying with a subscription model is that the company earns money and can keep working on the engine. One-time purchases are not sustainable for software that has a longer lifespan.
