Progressively add color to sprite upon each collision

My sprite has 8 image points, and I'm trying to make it so that each time it collides with an object, color or a sprite appears on a new image point. I want the sprite to start one color and progressively change colors on collision with the object. Can someone explain how to do this?

Can you make a picture? What will the sprite look like after several collisions with different colors?

Here are images of the original (light colored) and fully changed sprite. I want the dog to be light originally, and every time it collides with a mud puddle it gets progressively more brown.
