HTML5 Game Bundle (7 Games) – Created with Construct 3
  • Hello;

    I want my NPC's to talk to me using Gemini API. We are told by google that you can have a free Gemini API key (google "create free Gemini API key" to see how to get it). I want to use the most recent one (Gemini 3.0) if the user has it, but it looks like all I can get (and I am a Gemini Pro subscriber so not a good test) is gemini - 2.0 - flash. There are 4 out there in the available list, some of the time, but I get 2.0 flash consistently.

    So far I haven't tried to get this working in construct 3 (I am just vibe coding it as a test run at this time). Its possible someone has already set this up as an addin here and I am just not aware of it.

    Is anyone else looking to use these API keys in their games, and if so if what are you getting to use with your key? What I have is only google so far, perhaps others are using chatgpt or claude or whatever, let me know.

    thanks

    yours

  • I built a quick proof of concept in C3:

    Text input sent to ChatGPT API

    Response forwarded to Elevenlabs for conversion to voice

    Simple avatar with sound reactive jaw

    I can share if you’re interested - just not at my pc at the moment.

  • Great. I mostly want to know what I can expect from the typical game player. How hard is it for them to get hold of an AI API key? Do they have to a pro user or can anyone figure it out and get a key? Also, is there a lowest form of AI I have to expect them to have a key for -- clearly nobody gets a free Gemini 3.0 key.

    Anyway, glad to see you got it to work.

  • I've no experience with Anthropic keys, just OpenAI - it's pretty straightforward to get a key, but you obviously have to create an account and buy credits which is more friction. Also, as a user, I wouldn't be at all comfortable entering my API key into an app.
