How do I implement an auto save game and load feature in my game?

For example, the 'Logo quiz' game saves what logo's you have already guessed. When you exit the game and re-enter, you are up to where you just left off from before.

How do I implement this into my game?

I'm interested in game saves too. Is there some VC++ hack to circumvent the extremely annoying Javascript limitation not being able to simply write a save file?
