  • Hey guys,

Whenever I try to open my project, this message comes up,

An object instance was specific with the name 'spike', which does not appear to be an object type name in this project.

    Under element: c2layout \ layers \ layer \ instance

    Line 4860, column 17

    In C:\(my folders)

The file type may be invalid. Try checking the file in a text editor (projects are saved in XML format).

    Any help guys?

  • Post the capx.

Apparently, there's an instance in the project of an object type that does not exists.

Did you had an object named "spike" and did you rename/delete it somehow.

With the capx it'd be easier to check out.

  • Sorry about my ignorance, but what is a capx?

and no I didn't delete the object spike, I have over 7 or 8 of them in my game.

  • Saving and sharing a project.

Capx is what you get when saving as single file.

  • How do I save it as a .capx if i can't open my project, I only have a .caproj file? what happens is I open up the project, it gives me a error, only choice it gives me is to click OK, then I'm left with a blank construct 2 screen.

  • Extract from the manual article from earlier!

capx files are simply a ZIP of a project folder. You can rename a .capx file to .zip and see the project files.

So zip the whole folder where your project is and post it.

  • As said in the dialog box, I opened mainScreen.xml saw that there were instances of "spike" there, but no object-type "spike" in the howdie2.0.capx.

    Get the fixed caproj file.

Copy it at the root of the project folder (backup your existing file) and open it.

I created a "spike" object type with a sine behavior, no more no less.

Be sure to open your spike objects and maybe reset their origin/collision polygon.

I copied/paste elements from another object type, so the origin and polygon might be off. (I used the values of the "wall" object type).

If you can recall the steps that you followed before ending with this errorful caproj, I'm sure Ashley would have a look at it to prevent it in future releases.

  • I'm really really sorry for wasting a little bit more of your time again but I'm new to construct and don't know my way around, but how do I post your caproj file, because when I click it I get a new tab of code? so i Save Target As it into a .xml then paste it somewhere? again I'm really really sorry.

And how I got into this mess I don't quite know, but last time I looked I had 2 objects of 'spike' one was blank and the other had a sprite on it, but I used the one with the sprite.

  • Save the file with the extension .caproj to the root of your folder project. This is the function "Save as" from your browser. (For example in FF in win7, click the top left "Firefox" menu and "Save as...")

If you don't have the option to change the extension from the save as option of your browser, save it as a xml (or provided extension) file and rename it afterwards directly from the folder.

Then open it from C2. It should work.

  • Ah. found out my default browser couldn't save as a C2 file.

    Kyatric, thank you very much for your help! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> I couldn't of had done it without you. <img src="smileys/smiley27.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Thanks alot Kyatric..
