Update for Kongregate Plugin?

  • Anyone have any new news? It's been a while so I thought I'd check in.

  • Anyone have any new news? It's been a while so I thought I'd check in.

    Kongregate doesn't give a damn.

Ashley is looking in the other direction, pretending this thread doesn't exist. (at least, thats how it looks)

The guy who said he might make the plugin was just talk and no action.

Rex is still busy and cannot make the plugin till 2-3months from now.

People vented their anger and went away.

Nope, nothing new. Business as usual

You think? Maybe he is working away on it? He doesnt need to make anything completely finished. He could just make a start and then what ever he completes could be a starting point for rex if / when rex has time to look at it. How goes it broknecho?

  • Guys I have been speaking with Rex, he is starting to think about the Kongregate plugin.

He requests we provide a list of the top 5 features for the updated Kongregate plugin and he can start with those features.

So now is your chance, what are the features you would most love to see? Rank your choices 1 - 5 by priority, with number 1 being highest priority.

Features that were mentioned by irbis on pages 3 and 4 of this thread included:

    • Interstitial static and video ads.
    • Ability to position ads within the game, not just at the beginning when game is first launched.
    • Rewarded ads
    • In App Purchases
    • Support for 'Kongregate Kreds', which allows spending of real money on virtual products.

What other features would you guys like to see?

I think you just listed all of them.

Interstitial static and video ads + Kong Kreds = more money than on mobiles.

And that's all we actually need.

Ok, would you say having general support for 'IAP' is exactly the same as supporting Kong Kedits? Or are they slightly different in some cases irbis?

The only IAP option for Kongregate platform is by their native Kreds. That's the only form of IAPs allowed in there. Same goes for Ads. Everything has to go through them. If you use 3rd party Ads or IAPs - you get banned.

In short: yea hehe. They're the same in Kong case.

To explain the gravity of the situation

    What we have now:

One Ad upon game start. That's it. The player can play for 48h in row but you still earn once.

    New Kong API:

One Ad plays at the start. Then you can "call" more Ads as many times as you desire. Every 5 minutes, or every X ingame task. Lets say you use that 10 times per one play session. Boom - you are earning 10 times more than before. And that's not even counting in IAPs.

Now you see how big of a deal this is for all of us?

The biggest problem here is not even Scirra but the community, who just do not realize or refuse to understand the possibilities that this opens. With new API - Kongregate games could easily go toe-to-toe with mobiles, in terms of income. And browser games are far more easier to produce, maintain and expand. No CPU, GPU, RAM or size limits. Little to no optimizations. Because all you have to worry about are the browsers and they are mostly normalized nowadays. When on mobiles you have to deal with Android vs Apple. With having your game being played on modern device and on an 3 years old one. And all mobile developers will agree that in world of mobile gaming - even one year between smartphone models is a century in terms of technology. Year old Samsung is like old gameboy, when newest iPhone have horsepower of a desktop PC. And your game has to run well on all of them hehe. On browsers - no more of this bias.

And this is coming from someone who developed games for every possible platform and OS, except consoles.

I can back my words with my own years of experience.

  • I'll send over what I have Artpunk to rex. You are right that I was working on it but got some paid work coming in so I had to put it on hold. I was able to successfully clone the current plugin and get the new plugin to work with a sample game on Kongregate.

The rest of the API seems pretty simple but I really have no time for about another month. Unfortunately I was also attacked from someone on this forum when I tried to point out some issues and I won't tolerate that. Sorry about that but it's not a total loss of time. I will talk with rex!

Wish you the best in your games!

  • Booping this thread back up again. Any more progress? Discussion?

  • Sorry for lengthy wait. Well rainbowrex has made a plugin for Kongregate. Thanks so much to rex for making it!

It can be downloaded from his site here:

    http://c2rexplugins.weebly.com/rex_kongregate.html

The plugin supports Kongregate Kreds and Virtual Goods. It was also going to support Incentivised Ads, but Kongregate has suspended Incentivised Ads for new games, which is a real shame <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad"> <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes">

But we can still make use of kreds to generate revenue, which is very cool.

  • Thank you rexrainbow .

  • Hey, thanks

No more rewarded ads on Kongregate? This is sad, it looked like an ethic way to use ads in a game.

  • rexrainbow you're the best! It's a shame incentivized ads are gone though. Ah well, it's awesome to see virtual goods and creds available!!

  • It's not easy to test these features of my plugin, user should upload html to Kongregate first

  • Just wanted to post some information from the guys at Kongregate who have been good enough to provide detail about the decision to suspend Inventivised Ads for the moment, and their plans for that feature in the future.

[quote:z1aqpca6]We have decided to put a hold on approving new games for utilization of our incentivized ads API. The reason is entirely one of supply. We were thrilled to see great enthusiasm from both developers and players, but we were also surprised to see that the amount of video ads available couldn't keep up with the demand we generated. We have added a few other video ad sources to help, but still demand is well above supply. As such, with fixed supply, we have a 0-sum situation. If we add more games, we just reduce the revenue for the existing games, and new games won't be able to make very much. So we felt that the best solution for now is to put a tight limit on the games using the API to help them succeed.

All that said, we're currently talking with a new provider who may be able to give us a substantial increase in supply. If that works then we will absolutely open up the API again. In special situations we might consider permitting a new game to use the API, but in general, until we feel like we can get the demand to a point that is valuable for new developers, we decided to take a conservative approach to give those who already use the API the best deal we can.
