High Quality Magical Sounds to make your game even better! :D
  • Hello all

I have seen both the potential of Q3D and Babylon 3D, and they both seem good to make Construct 2 a 3D editor. The former seems to be the generally used plugin, but is Babylon 3D as good or even better?

Any information related to performance, usability or cool features for either is appreciated. I just want to know which one everyone prefers!!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Robot Rumble was made with Q3D. I would have been happy to use Babylon as well, but it wasn't available until after we started development.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

OK thanks! How easy was it to use? Do you have a link so I could have a look?

My background is as a mechanical engineer and a physics teacher, so I was comfortable with the 3D physics, but 3D game development in general was new to me. I had to learn a ton of basics that are true for all 3D engines in order to get everything working. It wasn't easy, but that isn't a criticism of Q3D, rather a fact of life for 3D engines in general.

Now that the game is out, I will try to do a tutorial series based on my experiences in Q3D. A lot of the stuff might well be applicable to Babylon as well.

Thanks for the reply - nice game too! Would love to see that tutorial series also!

  • cjbruce nice first playable game made with Q3D ive'd seen so far outside the official demo, Great job.

if u used Q3d before would be very weird to switch to babylon ... q3d has the c2 simplicity or maybe i got to used with it. but there are 2 plugins that are worth trying, to see which fits your need.

they would probably both support your game that you want to make, is a matter what game you want to make with it? underground? call of duty warfare? cause that are possible, but not with C2 as a engine its just not meant for that kind of processing. but you could do a 3d mario land, or 3d sonic adventure type of game. 3d platformers, 3d racing all possible. but would require you to keep the models as lowpoly as possible.

    Good luck!

P,S (babylon is a bit faster=more models supported in 1 scene.)

  • Thats interesting, thanks for the info. Now I'm thinking that Q3D seems to be the better option, due to more tutorials available online and with it being less complex.

First off, I just want to experiment with games like a sidescroller but with a 3D perspective. So, I'm guessing Q3D would be easier due to the simplicity of the game, even though it is not as fast?

well the latest plugin updates, babylon 1.5 and q3d 2.4 both support visual placement of objects so it should be pretty easy with both of them, but yes Q3D would be much more intensive then B3D

    P.S

see both plugins examples. youl see as performance how fast is one compared to another. Q3D has a tank demo (a official demo with a bit more complex and elements) and B3D well has short platforms but youl see the difference in quality and CPU utilization when u play demos.

My first Q3D tutorial is almost done. I'll try to have it posted by tomorrow.

FWIW, it might be worth buying both plugins to see what you like. B3D has some neat features that Q3D doesn't have. On the flip side, X3M plans to hold off on creating a Construct 3 version of the plugin until C3 has the ability to render 3D in the editor, so it will be Construct 2-only for the forseeable future. I haven't heard back from QuaziGNRLnose about his intentions for Q3D in Construct 3, but we might have to wait a while (possibly forever) for it too.

  • I bought q3d plugin I don't know how to use very confusing no documentation no examples just time waste it like 2d in editor your model look like 2d it is not like unity you can see stuff like real world I don't like it

  • It is true that your model is not rendered in 3D in the editor like in Unity. This makes laying everything out much more difficult than in Unity. This isn't a limitation of either the Q3D plugin or of the Babylon plugin, rather a fact of life when the editor is 2D. You have to be very careful when you lay things out to work around this limitation.

The documentation actually does now exist, is about 100 pages long, and it is very good:

    https://www.scirra.com/forum/q3d-v-2-4-3d-physics-skeletal-animation-update_t106677?&hilit=q3d&start=1770

The only major thing missing from the documentation is the custom OIMO.js-based physics system. I'm almost done with a tutorial on making a physics-based racing game. I will post the tutorial shortly.

  • Ok thank you I will see your tutorial maybe I get start with it

  • cjbruce Thanks for looking into that. I see what you are saying with buying both, but I think I will just go for Q3D, since there is a wealth of pre-existing (and now yours) tutorial. Pity about no 3D for Construct 3 too

I'm sure that the online tutorials would actually be easier to learn from than the documentation anyway!

  • Here's the link to the final product for the tutorial:

I'm still working on the text and pictures. I'll try to get it done tonight...
