Confused about collisions

  • So I have a donut-shaped object with a few holes, and a player object, which is a ball. Collision is really odd, i can walk close to its borders, but only collide when inside its shape. I can go inside it, but only through one of the holes, and when inside, I randomly collide with the invisible

    WASD move

Go to the right and try to go inside the shape

Now go left and try to go through the other hole

  • The donut is a single image ?

How did you set the collision polygon ?

A capx would help me help you.

  • I'm new to C2. I don't know how to set a collision polygon, if you're talking about physics, i'm not using physics there. And the donut is a single image. I'll send you the capx via PM

    Edit: yay 1337 points!

  • Try Construct 3

Double-click your image, press Set Collision Polygon (the icon at the middle-left) and change the collision polygon, add or delete points.

  • Thx for the info, but I just saw it recommends less than 8 polygons. Will C2 have pixel perfect collision some day?

  • Yeah... maybe some day... i hope so.

  • Indeed.

So for now, you should "break" your big sprite into multiple sprites/parts, which with its own collision polygon.

  • Are you sere about that, Kyatric?

It's just that THIS POST from Ashley says he's happy with polygonal collision as pixel perfect would be impractical. I suppose in the distant future, maybe :)

  • Well, someday, hypotheticly in the long run it could be.

So indeed... maybe some day... I hope so ^^

Also, maybe an improvement from 8 points collision polygon could see the light of day at some point. Who knows ?

Ashley has already surprised us more than once.

But once again, hypothesis and hopes, nothing more, I don't want to start a rumor or anything.

  • You do seem quite close to Ashley so what you say does hold more weight :)

    To quote Sheldon Cooper:

This is just an impression ^^

I have no idea in what context do this quote apply or who's that Sheldon Cooper <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • You would need to be a nerd like me, probably :) Sheldon Cooper is from 'The Big Bang Theory'.

  • Is it because pixel perfect is not viable on HTML5?

Javascript isn't fast enough. You could have a precision to a pixel, but it wouldn't be playable.
