Any successful Construct 2 mobile games?

  • Could you share if you have any cool gems of mobile games made with Construct2? I'd love to see what Construct2 is capable on mobile and I realized I've never concretely seen a good example.

    Thanks

  • ^ Great Post, i would like to see too!

  • Just that, it's being thrown around that HTML5 is good enough performance wise to work on mobile as in the recent post by Ashley here https://www.scirra.com/blog/ashley/28/t ... ve-engines

Which I don't dispute since I don't have the intellectual nor knowledge capacity to do, and I trust Ashley about it, but there's a certain concrete and tangible reason as to why we don't see many games done in Construct2 in the AppStore breaking ground. And we are big, I think much bigger than BuildBox for an example. It follows that we should see a bunch of successful games right? Or at least some?

So if that's not the case, what's stopping it from happening?

My personal experience is horrible. This is not to blame Construct2 at all. They make it fairly obvious that exporting to mobile is not directly supported, but ignoring the demand for simple and straightforward way to export is just shooting oneself in leg.

Maybe the way forward for mobile isn't native exports. OK, I can live with that. But if there's a simple, recently updated, direct way to know how the hell to use any of the exporters. Here's me begging for help on releasing on mobile using Cocoon or PhoneGap viewtopic.php?f=147&t=178890&p=1052835#p1052835

I don't want to do that and bother people every time I want to publish a game and the third party wrappers change a little something, some insider thing that you "must" know, so I spend 2 weeks finding that little key on forum posts, obscure dark corners and under the bridge for solutions.

Mind you I still haven't found a solution for my problem. So headache continues.

But as I've stated, this might be only my own retardation and normal, smart folks out there might know how to work with those third party wrappers, and have already published cool games on the AppStore.

If so, me is mighty curious! Let's check them out and celebrate them, at least among us.

  • Found a few on Android, unfortunately I don't work with that and can't test it.

And this guy is making an iOS Android game that looks delightful, but haven't yet published https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater

  • There's an entire forum post on AppStore games

But I can't seem to find any there that's really AppStore recommended or caught their feature.

  • Mortar Melon is one of the only mobile games I've seen in C2 that was well received so far: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mortar- ... 70333?mt=8

However, that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't any others. There's a lot of people (and businesses) using C2 who aren't active on the forums.

  • I would also like to know this.

I had tried to look into this myself with no such luck. That worries me that you can't find games made with Construct. But I have decided to keep using it for now until I reach some limitations myself. But have a feeling that once I'm done with the more simple projects (retro equivalent of NES/SNES) I will be switching to Unity.

Of course, you do have to take a few things into consideration for not being able to find games—Constructs user size (seems smaller than others), Construct target user (seems like I see mostly people making their first game or using this for a school project posting in the forums rather than people making serious games, as in taking years to make with professional artists and musicians, etc), and outside of the forums how would you know if they used Construct? Why would they advertise it anywhere? Not that they would hide it but I don't see games proactively advertising what engine they used.

  • I'm working on a mobile game to be released in a few months. https://www.scirra.com/forum/archer-working-title-devlog_t150236 Weather it will be succesful or not, time will tell, but from a performance perspective (which people seem to worry about)..... I'm getting constant 60fps on midrange phones, using 1280x720 windowsize, 3200x2800 layoutsize. around 800 sprites in game layout. High detail Isometric pre rendered 3D, 4 player multiplayer using Photon Cloud.

  • jamijn , that's pretty cool. And if that's ingme video recording then it runs quite smooth. I like the voice

@tunepunk Link works now. Cool graphics! Joining the playtest

I'm curious though, did you try to test it via some wrapped already? as an IPA ? Please go through that process first, testing with Cocoon.IO app is risky as it behaves differently when compiled and exported. That's what I have as an issue that is preventing me to publish. Game works GREAT otherwise.

Thanks. Yes i tested to wrap it with intelXDK and and also building with visual studio for windows universal app. I havn't tried cocoon.io build yet, but XDK gaveme same performance as in phone browser. Not any noticeable difference, no problems. Everything worked fine.. Gonna test a new build once I've added some more features, and graphics.

  • Silverforce OK that was great. The game was perfectly stable, the phone didn't get hot AT ALL and on top it was fairly fun. So it IS possible and I need to get my shit together. Thanks for that!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

If all you're worried about is stability or performance, then don't be.

C2 is great for mobiles, despite some drawbacks, but event & game optimizations can do great things.

  • I posted this before it has a couple of successful mobile games.
