Will I still be able to use Construct 2 and publish games?

Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • I bought a Construct 2 license last summer. I starting building a game. I am about to come back to it. I realize Construct 3 is out now, but it's subscription based. I do not intend on switching to C3 as I don't pay to rent software out of principle.

Will I still be able to use Construct 2 like I did in the past and publish games with it? Or will it be deprecated and basically rendered useless? I need to know to see whether I go back to working on my game that I started, or switch to another platform that is not subscription based and start anew.

    Thanks.

Thank you for your reply, zenox98. I took a look at the thread from the post you linked until the most recent one, and the people at Scirra don't seem to be willing or able to provide a specific timeframe of continued support for Construct 2 -- just the vague statement, "for the foreseeable future", which means nothing to me. For all I know that could be just a few months, giving themselves the liberty to drop it whenever they want. A more specific timeframe such as "until the end of X year", for example, would be a lot more helpful. That way I would have an idea if it's even worth it to invest my time and effort into creating something with version of the software I already paid for. To me, when a company uses the phrase "for the foreseeable future", they're purposely choosing such wording to discharge themselves from any type of commitment. I know, based on experience as a user of other programs that have gone subscription-only. This was enough information for me to make up my mind. Time to look elsewhere. Cheers.
