WE'RE WELL OVER HALFWAY THROUGH JANUARY ALREADY, BUT THAT MEANS IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR THE GLOBAL GAME JAM!
For those of you who haven’t come across the Global Game Jam before, it’s a huge, annual, in-person jam that takes place all over the world at the end of January. This year, the jam will be happening from the 31st of January to the 2nd of February! If you want in, all you have to do is pick a site to jam at and sign up, so check the GGJ website for details and to see if there’s somewhere near you!
Last year saw over 47,000 people jamming together across more than 850 sites in 113 countries, and we’re so proud that over 250 games were made in Construct. That’s a great contribution from you guys!
So, what about 2020? Well, there are already plenty more jam sites registered over last year, with more than 900 sites to pick from. And, from our side, as has become somewhat of a tradition, we’ll be offering the full version of Construct 3 for free throughout the jam!
The full version of Construct 3 will be available for all to use completely free from Friday January 31st (00.01 UK Time) through to 12.00 on Monday February 3rd. That should allow us to cover all the timezones!
All you will need to do is:
1. Make sure you've registered a free account
2. Simply visit editor.construct.net to load Construct 3
3. Log in with your account - you'll then have access to the full version!
The Jam kicks off at 5 pm on the Friday - that’s local time for wherever you may be and will run for roughly 48 hours from that point. There’s a single globalised theme which will be revealed at around the same time (5 pm) at each jam site. Obviously, timezones make things a bit tricky, so if you are jamming, keep the theme a secret until the last region (Hawaii) has been told! You’ll know when that is because GlobalGameJam will share the theme publicly at that point too. You can keep up with all the goings-on with the official hashtag #GGJ20.
And even though the theme will be different this jam, if you’re looking for GGJ inspiration, why not check out the Construct Games made last year?
We’d love to know if you’re joining the Jam, so share your creations with us! Use the tags #MadeInConstruct, #Construct3 or #Construct2, or tag us directly on Twitter or Facebook using @ConstructTeam and we’ll share as much as we can!
