A challenging game that needs quick responses!
  • Hi.. I was wondering:

    1) If C2 Projects will be compatible and usable in C3 Editor?

    2) If our C2 License will be workable and applicable for C3 as well?

    3) Will C3 have support for 3D Game Making? (is there a chance?)

    Thanks,

    Hasan

  • Quick answers:

    1. Yes

    2. No

    3. No

  • 1. It looks like yes (see "The next Penelope" running in C3): https://www.scirra.com/blog/188/live-pr ... t-3-editor

    2. Well...

If you bought your C2 license before February 2017, you get 50% discount from C3 1st year subscription

If you bought your C2 license after February 2017, you get 100% discount from C3 1st year subscription because f__k you old devoted users.

You will still be able to use C2 and will still receive some support.

    3. Officially NO. But since C3 is pretty much C2 in browser and can support older projects, it is possible that it would support Babylon3D and Q3D. Also since it will support Javascript, you will be able to write your own 3D plugin. So unofficially YES, but it will be a pain in the ... back <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • because f__k you old devoted users.

I get your point, but look at it from a different perspective: One who purchased Construct 2 long ago possibly didn't give Scirra any money since then. So it's understandable in my opinion to ask the old users to pay gain. I think a 50% discount for the first year is not a bad deal.

I get your point, but look at it from a different perspective: One who purchased Construct 2 long ago possibly didn't give Scirra any money since then. So it's understandable in my opinion to ask the old users to pay gain. I think a 50% discount for the first year is not a bad deal.

I've also thought at this, and logically I agree that I've purchased C2, not C3, but from a marketing perspective this is bad (the same kind of bad that made the C3 announcement wreck).

Why not get the worth of 50% -> 6 free months of C3 ?

I don't have anything against new users, but don't forget the current users (the ones that are already supporting the community), give them something sweet to swallow the subscription model. Also, giving actually free time to use C3, some of the C2 users might migrate their projects in C3 and "be encouraged" to continue with subscription model.

Also, C2 users did make only 1 time payment, but think about the community support and the publicity that users had made for the engine by publishing games.

  • If we didn't give new users 1 year free, we risk all our revenue drying up because everyone new customers might choose instead to wait for Construct 3.

Now I appreciate this is only a risk, but it's one we don't want to take. From a business point of view it's a bit of a vulnerable transition and it's important to keep sales going. Between now and end of Construct 3 beta is some months.

Giving first year free for purchases now we consider a semi pre-order for Construct 3, and ensures that new customers won't have reason to hold off their purchases.

We deliberated over this for a long time and felt that 50% discount off first year for existing customers was a good deal. If you don't think it's a good deal, that's fine as always we're not forcing you to take it.
