Don't miss out on the latest and greatest new features in Construct 3

Notes

It's a new stable release of Construct! If you're updating from the last stable release r449.2 then this update includes changes from r450, r451, r452, r453, r454, r455, r456 and r457. Highlights include:

⭐ Lots of updates for Construct Game Services, most notably support for cloud save, providing new a cross-platform way to store savegames online! The authentication flow is also improved on all platforms, and Twitch can be used as a login provider. You can now also change the player's name, and there's a new plugin icon too.

⭐ Lots of updates for desktop exports with Windows WebView2, macOS WKWebView and Linux CEF. These include options to export without the window caption and have a non-resizable window; Browser actions to maximize, minimize and restore the window; and also File System support for moving/renaming files, drag-and-drop, and a File System script interface.

⭐ Lots of updates for the 9-patch object, including changing the image scale, improved rendering at small sizes, loading images from URL, and support for changing settings per instance.

Performance improvements for the Text object, including a new optimized text layout engine, and better performance when dynamically scaling or changing Text objects, including optimizations targeted for WebGPU (which browser makers are also working on)

⭐ The modern WebGPU renderer is now enabled by default for both the editor and runtime, allowing for improved performance in most cases.

⭐ The debugger now shows more information about timelines

⭐ You can now write unlimited lines of code in the Free Edition!

12 new example projects including demo games Samuroof and Tick tock toppings

⭐ Loads more - see all the intervening release notes for full details!

Construct 3 was first released in 2017, around 8 years ago. In order to ensure we can keep improving Construct in the long term, it's important to eventually retire features that are deprecated, have been superseded, or have otherwise been holding it back. This release is a major compatibility milestone as we are retiring a number of legacy features. These include:

• Legacy (SDK v1) third-party plugins and behaviors (r450+ only supports SDK v2)

• The NW.js exporter (r450+ only supports the Windows WebView2, macOS WKWebView, and Linux CEF exporters)

• Support for exporting to Windows 32-bit (x86) and Linux ARM 32-bit

• The legacy "flat" export file structure

• The legacy "file" scheme for iOS and Android

You can however continue using all the above features in the r449.x LTS releases which will be supported until the end of 2026 (and will still be available after that, but without support and so further use is at your own risk).

We'll be starting a new beta release cycle soon. If you'd like to help test it, try the beta release opt-in: choose Notify me about updates for beta releases in Settings. Stay tuned for more updates!

  • Hello and thank you for the new update! Lots of good stuff in there.

"Performance improvements for the Text object". Just fyi, in our game Sol Cesto we have a lot of text objects, and we do a lot of small zoom in/zoom out using tweens. Before this update it was smooth, but now the game is so slow during those zooms that it became almost unplayable.

Also, we've been using nwjs since we put the game in EA, so we cannot use a Construct version without it.

Right now I'm actively looking how to revert to my previous Construct version 😅

Have you tried using Chrome beta/dev/canary? There have been some Chrome-side performance improvements for this very recently (see this issue). It might also be worth trying setting the renderer back to WebGL, as work to optimise WebGPU to be as fast as WebGL in this case is also ongoing (see also this issue).

  • 9-patch changes and performance improvements are exciting, but this is the first stable I might have to sit out while I finish my main project using NW.js

  • I don't know if anyone else is having this issue it might just be me but is anyone else's left key not working? In terms of shifting stuff in the layout?

  • after update, layouts are in blank in editor!

  • Please add a 3D rotation feature for 2D objects.

    like this: kindeyegames.itch.io/construct-3-rotate-3d-behavior

  • I totally support retiring deprecated features. I love Construct 3 and want to see it grow.

But I want to share I'm a bit uneasy about the removal of NW.js.

I'm fortunate enough to make a meager living off of my C3 games on Steam, but I just haven't had any luck with the other export options.

You've already written a very transparent blog about the restrictions of webview with Steam's Overlay:

    construct.net/en/blogs/ashleys-blog-2/trying-show-steam-overlay-1861

I completely understand this is more of a "Steam" issue than a "Scirra" issue, but it's still unacceptable to a shocking number of players.

Not only that, but I've had so many issues consistently getting achievements to fire with the steamworks plugin. All of it works fine with NW.js.

As for Linux (CEF), I couldn't get that to run on Steam Deck no matter what I tried. I had to make the Steam Deck build run NW.js out of necessity.

I guess my only option is to stop updating for now...

The latest version 1.5 of the Steamworks addon supports the overlay on Windows again. Last I tried both achievements and Steam Deck were working fine - it's hard to say more without seeing something like a bug report with a sample project and steps to reproduce.

  • Unlimited lines of code - yay

    Unlimited events coming soon?

  • Great update for Windows WebView2!

  • The left button doesn't work when moving objects in the editor.

  • For Anybody running into Addon issues with the new release, Click on the Pop Up link when loading your project (LTS Release Page), Click the bottom small Link when trying to open your project (if your project doesn't load) and revert back to the older Construct 3 version on the link, Until your Addon Developer updates their addon then re-download the new addon version. Then re-Update Construct 3.
