Ivana’s Tale is not just a video game; it’s a story about the protagonist, a refugee from Afghanistan who has always dreamed of rising in life and achieving her own freedom—both emotional and financial. The first level depicts her escape from the Taliban dictatorship imposed on her country, as she sets out in search of a better life and chooses China as her new home. China is the second level of the game, where the character experiences intellectual and cultural growth: she lands a job at one of Beijing’s top companies and receives an offer to move to Switzerland. Upon arriving in Bern, the capital of the tax haven, she heads to the new bank where she is supposed to work—but ends up the target of an attempted murder. After all, an Afghan woman at the top, among the elite, disturbed many. The game ends with her heading to give a speech at the UN to tell her story of survival and resilience.
