Building this retro arcade car dodge game was an incredible learning experience, with my proudest achievement being the seamless integration of the nostalgic aesthetic and the dynamic hazard system. Through this project, I significantly leveled up my programming skills, specifically in designing automated spawning managers, managing custom player states, and implementing 2D parallax scrolling for the endless road. The most difficult challenge was perfecting the car's handling on the oil spills; initially, hitting a spill sent the car flying completely off-screen. I solved this by isolating the steering variables, implementing a Mathf.Clamp boundary solution with the help of AI, and adding a spinning animation so the mechanic felt fair and readable to players. Playtester feedback was vital, leading me to add bright outlines to the tires for better visibility and introduce a gradual speed multiplier to create a genuine sense of progression. If given another week, I would focus entirely on game juice by adding neon screen glares, tire smoke particles, and a retro synthwave soundtrack. Ultimately, I consider the final game a huge success because it fully delivers a highly addictive, bug-free, and responsive loop that genuinely captures the spirit of classic 80s arcade games
