Dark Flow... Construct's evil twin?

From the Asset Store
This is a twin stick shooter similar to Enter the gungeon,Nuclear Throne, Helldivers & Soul knight for the mobile device
  • Dark Flow is actually the next version of dsgamemaker http://dsgamemaker.com/ which is like gamemaker for the DS. Looks like they're supporting other platforms.

I've never used it but it looks good.

  • I ran across Impact not too long ago: impactjs.com Doesn't appear to be a trial version of it so I couldn't test it out.

  • Besides the responsiveness of Ashley and Tom, and the frequent updates, I think what makes C2 the best choice (at least for me) is its avid community. Lots of contributed capx samples, tutorials, and the buzzing forums. For me, that was the perhaps most important aspect when I decided to buy a license. (Some of the alternatives don't even have forums.)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Yeah commitment is a key factor for any software, especially these days with technology changing so quickly.

The Dark Flow author seems to abandon his projects for long periods, which is a risk you take with free software.

  • Indeed, even though there is many other choices out there, Construct still reigns supreme.

Problem is though, I'm still trying to learn coding, and now that I'm used to Construct's visual style of scripting, I just can't understand how coding is any more preferable, besides there not being a "3D-Construct"...

  • Regarding how Ashley and Tom are 'good guys' in the sense that they don't stifle the community on speaking about competitors is what made me run away from GM's forums and come here. And I bought GM81 and was planning a game on it.

Best decision I could make, actually. My girlfriend is in the process of helping me on my game! Construct cut's the messy code and makes things so immediate, even those who can't endure the development process see it as a nice exercise. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

Also, we should see a few clones dropping by, of course. Construct Classic is open source! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

EDIT: DF exports to HTML5 and .exe... Nice...

  • Another one is Logicking :

Looks decent but C2 still rulezz them all

The speed that their HTML5 game's currently have is actually really impressive.

I'm definitely going to follow this one and see if it would fit my purposes better for now.

    They also say:

Game porting to Android and iOS as native apps with hardware acceleration support for render and physics calculations.

My biggest issues currently with construct2 are multi touch, speed and the lack of custom loading.

Further down the page they describe how they do it:

he games made with Logicking's HTML5 Game Engine will be ready for use with third party technologies like directCanvas and CocoonJS.

In other words, identical to our plans for Construct 2.
