[plugin] Out Run

  • Gigatron This is awesome man!

    Suggestions just from a quick look at it:

    1) More ability to customize controls maybe? Maybe not that important of what key does what but more like, changing the acceleration speed or turn speed, so maybe we can make the car "drift"

    2) Is there some good way or size you suggest for adding or editing images to work with it?

    3) More settings like collision effect on slow down, off the road effect, etc

    Awesome job so far though!

    Awesome job so far though!

    1 :The control keys are: ASDW or Arrows keys;

    Drift effect can be done with adding car sprite this mean you must draw all drift sprite movements and i will try to implement it.

    2: you can make your own sprites or background with changing sprites and background.png by respecting all size;

    all sprites were defined x,y to x+width,y+height ..

    3. Meditating ......

    The only thing I suggest is gearing this plugin more as a "psuedo 3D" set rather than just outrun. There's a lot of different games that could use this! Space shooters, space harrier, maybe some games with fake perspective. I'll take a look at this later tonight

    btw he has a 3d perspective projection routine somewhere in this forum, so it will easy to include plants ennemy etc ...

    Is it possible to reference more than one spritesheet during runtime in order to have and add more variety of scenery, cars, props, etc.? Can this new spritesheet be added to the plugin's source file? If yes, where would this need to be changed?

    Yes, you must change gfx sprites respecting the same size of original gfx; I made an example to finish track after 2 laps.. if you want to continue with other gfx i think you must add another plugin in the next layout... in other word,

    if you finish the first stage add another outrun plugin with another gfx...

    it's ok ?

  • The Space Harrier example works on Opera/Chrome but not in FIrefox, seems Firefox is getting last adding all the html5 features. The others Nebulus and OUTRUN works in all i tested, and they are great! I guess with all that also will be possible some kind of Star Fox or for some type of Road Rash.

    Idea: Will be possible a tunnel effect with that? maybe put the effect at top and in the sides in some way?

    Yes, i don't know what is going with FIrefox but sometins the WebGL is activated and sometimes is OFF :S , and i guess i tested the harrier when was off .

    And i guess in somewhere will be the entire sprite sheet. But i guess gigatron only used one to test i guess.

  • Other feature requests:

    Some conditions and actions. On hit other car condition - so we can add a sound effect at least. A way to compare an enemy car's X to the player's X, so we can change sprites. Ability to compare distance between a player and an enemy.

    Ability of player and enemy cars to switch states (attack/block/normal) so we can create a game similar to Road Rash (sega mega drive) <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

    In general, the more you expose actions and conditions to the editor, the more flexible the plugin will be in terms of creating original games with racing.
