dos88 - the browser version will soon be able to do almost everything the desktop download can. For example see this thread on using local file & folder saves in Chrome from the browser. The desktop download is just a wrapper for the browser version anyway, so is basically becoming redundant.
Native engines are a whole other ballpark, but I blogged a few years ago about why they're no silver bullet.

if... as halfway house to native, could construct export to something like React Native (or similar) facebook.github.io/react-native
