  • Seems I am not allowed to post in some sections... would be great to know that in advance!

  • sved, what sections in particular? I'm trying to design it to be as open as possible, but things such as editing tutorials require higher rep to filter out people who want to abuse it.

  • How can I highlight posts I haven't read? If it's not supported now, will it ever be?

This is the most missed forum feature for me. Finding what you haven't read is really annoying without it.

  • It's better now with bold texts for unread posts, still not perfect. When on top level - Forum Home - I can't see which under sections I haven't read. There's only how many viewers are there. Bold text doesn't make posts I wanna read stand out enough, and changing a post backround colour would be better. I think, it has to do with the whole colour scheme used here. I don't feel comfortable reading posts and don't stay here as long as I used to on the old forum. Maybe it's just me, only I feel it this way, but when I compare the old forum to this new I thing it's a step back (graphic wise). Sorry to be annoying, Tom, I know you've done lot of work here, just tell me you'll change the graphic and I'll be happy. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • That's ok Noga!

I've talked to Ash and he's keen to get the old forum icons back in, are people generally favourable to this idea?

  • A suggestion - what about having comment threads for new construct releases be dually forum threads? I'm on top of those, but I keep forgetting to check comment threads. If all comment threads were duplicated as forum threads, so they could be read, posted to and show up in the new posts section like forum threads, then anytime someone made a new comment it would show up in the same place as all the forum threads and would be much more noticeable without having to repeatedly check the various areas of the site.

I check the forums repeatedly during the day, but navigating all over the site, it seems much too easy for comments to be missed.

  • Yes I agree with you Arima, dual forum/comment seems like it would get pretty messy code wise pretty quickly, however I have some good ideas about how to know when new comments are posted, perhaps for example if someone references/quotes you it can send a notification to you that you've been replied to etc.

  • Or even better: what if the 'new posts' section was more like a 'new activity' section? So if any new blog posts, tutorials, versions, forum posts or comments were made, they all show up in one place?

Edit: Ergh, ninja'd. Well, it was a thought.

  • I think a site-wide 'new comments' section would be good - it'd just list all comments from all content in the site by newest first, so there's only one place to check if there are new comments anywhere. Perhaps that could be integrated with the 'new posts' page as well?

  • Yeah that could work... how about a Stackoverflow Esq inbox thing though which displays latest actions for your accounts, comment replies, new comments on your tutorials, etc etc? I suppose doing it on one page would be best then it can just feed in other ways later on.

  • As a moderator and a rabid scirra fan, I want to read basically everything on the site. If someone replies to someone else though that still makes it easy for us moderators to miss stuff without repeatedly checking every tutorial, blog post and such on the site.

As such, the new comments idea sounds great if it shows all new comments not just replies to your comments, especially great if it's integrated into the new posts section!

  • Don't know if this has been mentioned previously but, I can't see any way to edit a comment made by oneself to a blog post.

  • Zenox, do you have Javascript enabled? If you hover your mouse over your comment it should come up with some icons, one should let you edit your post. Note they do lock in after a little while though.

I allow everything for this site.

Hovering over my post just brings me options to Report or Quote the post - the same options that are also available to posts NOT posted by me.
