How do I open a game exported as HTML5

  • Hi,

I made my first Alpha and I exported it as HTML5.

I followed the instructions for uploading the folder to dropbox and I shared the link.

I wanted to just share it with a couple of friends.

However, neither I nor they could figure out how to play the game from that folder full of files.

After conducting numerous searches, and finding only debugging issues related to black screens and what not, and nothing about how to actually open the game, I concluded that the folder was missing something.

There was no .exe or .html file in the exported folder. only images, javascript, text, and apache files.

As a result, I ended up making an account here and publishing it to the arcade.

Was there indeed a technical error and there was a file missing?

    or

How does one open and play a game from that folder full of files?

    Thank you!

  • If your game was exported as HTML5 website there was a index.html file which was the file to "execute" to play the game.

    Define "apache files".

  • ah thanks for replying; I re-uploaded it and the index file was there. On my computer though, in the folder it shows up as a pdf rather than an html file. It did the black screen thing though, so I'm assuming someone would have to download the whole folder in order to play it? In any case, I saw from the search I did before that this is a common problem, so I'll look into it as necessary. I've already posted it in the arcade anyways.

    C2 doesn't export as PDF.

Not really. This is usually caused by all the exported files not being uploaded correctly, or the hosting site not recognizing/deleting files.

Use the browser console to check for errors.

You could also post the link to the exported project here for us to test for you.

To bypass the new user posing restriction, you would just need to add a character like an asterisk or a <SPACE> in the URL, e.g.

    h*ttp:*//www*mysite.com/mygames.capx
    [/code:d6z3cupj]
