  • Yes, Construct is still going to be free at 1.0.

  • Yeah, there's saving built in to the system object... you'd have to reverse engineer each plugin too, so it's hard work, and made even more difficult if you encrypt the file!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • That doesn't render the same, and as rich said it's difficult to make it appear anti-aliased (which is supported built-in by some cards). Plus you have extra legwork trying to set up the pivot point and angle to get it to line up with a start position and end position. Lines draw faster... and I guess you could draw a whole list of lines... it'd be handy even if it can be already done anyway.

  • Those planets look niiiice.

  • Sounds like we need a 'line' plugin. For now, though, you can use a Canvas object and draw lines to it, but since it uses an entire surface for drawing on, it's not ideal for all uses - but should suffice for a graph or something like that.

  • Yeah, as far as the 8800GT goes, it's a small graphics supercomputer, probably equal in computing power to an entire 1990's Pixar render farm. It can run Crysis on medium settings!!

  • Thanks guys. Here's one more test, which runs uncapped framerate (so it should show your true performance capability), and should have display glitches fixed:

Again, FPS results + hardware would be useful. I can peak around 400 fps with my 8800GT on 800x600.

  • It's done when it's done, and yeah, you'd select it from the runtimes list.

For the record, it's probably Crysis itself that sucks up all your resources, not necessarily DirectX itself. Remember OpenGL and DirectX are both just interfaces to the same hardware.

  • Czar-Orange has the forum tree at the top, I use it just because of that (tis annoying having it at the bottom).

  • Hey guys,

Been playing with the renderer more and trying to speed things up, and I wanna know how it works out for you guys.

raindemo_A.exe is one I built a few days ago, and raindemo_B.exe I built with the optimisations. V-sync is on so if both hit V-sync rate you won't notice a difference, but I'm interested in people with slower cards if there's a performance difference, and if raindemo_B.exe hits V-Sync rate when raindemo_A doesn't.

FPS is in the upper left, in dark blue. I'm still working on why the buttons in the B demo dont draw right

Video card models is useful too...

  • Lol Gullanian, I think you've found your guy

  • [quote:23idjm99]saying OpenGL is not good for the future isn't the best statement ever

I didn't say it wasn't a good idea for the future, I said it was an idea for the future. As things stand, Windows is 90% of the market and Linux etc take up the minority. *If* that changed to 90% Linux and Windows became the minority (which won't happen quickly), obviously then I'd go and write a linux/opengl runtime! I'd probably be using linux myself by the time it grabbed a 90% market share.

As things stand though, Windows keeps the majority market share and I'm not going to pre-empt major, significant shifts in the IT sector by going ahead and supporting Linux and OpenGL immediately. Nobody knows for sure what would happen - it's possible Linux even eventually fades and dies away! Then I'd have wasted a lot of my precious time wouldn't I? Given that there's plenty of other things to be getting on with in the DirectX/Windows Construct, it seems plainly obvious to me to wait until the Windows version is substantially matured.

This isn't to say it'd never be done - just that once we've got as much of the Windows market as we're going to get and we're still looking to expand, then it becomes an option.
