General Grant commented in The Papers of Ulysses S Grant, Vol. 11, p. 362, "(it is) the saddest affair I have witnessed in this war."
This is a tower defense game simulating the "Battle of the Crater" in the American Civil War. You assume the RPG role of General Mahone -- Confederate States of America CSA).
The "Battle of the Crater" was a significant US Civil War battle unfolding during the Richmond Campaign Siege. Over the course of this grueling seven-hour battle, the Union forces lost over 4,000 troops, while the Confederates only lost 1,500. It is the first battle the USCT ("United State Colored Troops") savagely fought against their former slave-owners. Could you have achieved a different outcome?
This game adopts several innovations mentioned in the first game of the "Building Tower Defense Games" workshop. (This game's source code and design instructions are available separately OR inside the student's workbook.)
