Unfair store reviews...

  • Hello guys,

I just checked the reviews of the products on my store and stumbled over some in my opinion really unfair reviews:

For example on my Space interface :

    https://www.scirra.com/store/game-user- ... erface-131

"I made the mistake of purchasing this, but it doesnt have portrait mode, and the dev is unwilling or unable to make a set in portrait."

I remember this case. He wrote me an email and asked for the portrait mode. I said that I don´t have the time to make it and that he can choose from any other asset as a gift...and this review is what I get back?

It really is not my fault if someone can´t read the description properly...you can see all the files in the screenshots and in the file overview Scirra offers.

"Does not come in pngs and when imported to gimp it looks NOTHING like the pics provided."

Also really unfair I guess. I never said that there are any PNG´s and you can see that clearly in the file overview.

Plus I can´t optimize for any other software than Photoshop itself. If I open a keynote presentation in Powerpoint it won´t work properly either.

There should be an option for sellers to give this to Scirra for a feedback round, as it directly affects my sales in the store if I get bad reviews, which are simply not correct in my opinion.

Thanks guys... especially for your great shop. Love to be part of it. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile">

  • Gimp can load psd's, just not folders, or layer fx.

It can load ai, and most other vectors, but only merged.

Png exported is the best option imo.

Granted Photoshop is a standard, but you have to remember it's an expensive one.

I wouldn't worry about the portrait mode, you can't be expected to provide every view, or aspect ratio.

  • Unfortunately this is something all sellers just have to deal with on any market. At least here you can contact a buyer to try to solve their problem and ask them to remove the bad review afterwards...provided they leave a written review and not just an anonymous rating, that is.

  • Quote: "I made the mistake of purchasing this, but it doesnt have portrait mode, and the dev is unwilling or unable to make a set in portrait."

As a reader, why would this bother me unless I want something in portrait mode? Your product isn't for portrait customers after all.

Quote: "Does not come in pngs and when imported to gimp it looks NOTHING like the pics provided."

Don't know what psd is, however it's no different to something being in Tiff, or JPG, or any other format, and converting from that. It's not a review I'd worry about, unless there's another reason to.

  • Well it´s also about the star rating... how can I get a 2 star rating, just because someone buys PSD (Photoshop-Files) without having Photoshop.

That´s simply not fair... I don´t buy a car and blame the seller for not having a driving license.

The star rating has a fairly high impact on the first impression of an asset and I´m really angry, that it get´s ruined by stuff like this. This directly affects my income and I would love to see some statement from Scirra bout this.

  • I think the best solution to that is to give out some samples, and ask those people for ratings.

Beaverlicious just don't mind them too much. In your case, I can see that you did mention all the requirements.

Customers with common sense will understand that and still buy your assets even with those unfair reviews.

However, you could also update your assets and give them what they want, good customer support is always the key and

might even increase the amount of sales.

    Just playing devils advocate...

[quote:1l0j0s71]Here comes my little Sci-Fi user interface for you guys. Everything is based on effects and layerstyles, that can easily be copied to any shape you like! Just export whatever you want from the PSDs. Have fun and stay beaverlicious!

The highlighted section of the product description could make people think that Portrait is an option. Maybe you could explicitly state that it is for Landscape only.

As for the PNG issue, it is the format that Construct 2 uses, so some people might assume that's what format art sold for use in Construct 2 will be in, if they don't read the Package Contents/Description. Maybe you could export each layer of the PSDs as PNGs and include those in the package.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I know that problem, sometimes I wish to have the option ot comment a review, but this isn't possible at the moment.

Moreover Ratings should only be allowed with a text, not just ratings without any comment.

So you don't know what was bad with your item and therefor you have no way to fix that.

    Regards

    Andy

The text says that it´s based on effects and layerstyles (within photoshop of course) which allow you to add the effects to each and every shape you like. I guess "Layerstyle" should be understandable as a photoshop related term, or should at least make you stumble upon it.... nevertheless you can look into the folder you get....always!

It´s just super annoying, that there is nobody you can talk to when there are unfair reviews. I even send the Portrait-Dude Codes to download other assets from me and still got a bad star-rating and review.... this simply SUCKS!

Can´t we just get some kind of moderator for store issues, that takes an eye on these things and delete the ones that are obviously not fair?

Saying that there is no need, as people will read it and see that it is bull*** is simply wrong. People see that there is a bad star rating and turn away to the next asset.

  • Deleting reviews.

    Thats kind of scary.

The only time you want moderation is when someone tries to manipulate the ratings.

Sometimes you got ignorant "haters" like that, it's frustrating for sure but there is nothing you can do about it either.

In your case it would be the best to get in touch with them and help them out, a normal customer would surely appreciate that.

(I assume you did try to solve the issue and did not just gift them something and requested to up the rating for it.)

It´s just super annoying, that there is nobody you can talk to when there are unfair reviews.

    Are you sure about that?

Did you contact the support, that's normally the best way to deal with all sorts of Scirra Store issues.
