Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!

You can make 3D games with WebGL without knowledge of writing javascript and gl shaders, you can use visual programming like C2 does, it's different, it's worth.

  • Wow, very cool. I'm on the waiting list.

Watched the demo videos. Very nice for beta, but have a few apprehensions that will be dissolved only once i get to play around with it. But looks promising for new project.

  • nope, While Goo has a statemachine that let's you use some levels of visual programming. You will need to get your hands dirty on a lot of fundamental levels.

Even the first tutorial is getting the developers to jump right into the code.

The demo's only show the basic of the 3d layout. watching closely at the statemachine the statemachine is exactly that. A state of basic representations of motion, colours, reflection.... so on etc.

You won't really be able to build a game with just the statemachine.

If you want a 3D with minimal programming. Unity + Playmaker is still your best choice.

jayderyu Goo offers 2 things: Goo Create and Goo Engine

Goo Create offers editor with visual programming.

Goo Engine offers for programmes to write the code whatever they want.

    You're talking about Goo Engine.

Thanks for pointing that out. I stand very corrected :)

I was excited briefly. Then not.... now am again.

  • jayderyu You can see this video how visual programming works, it doesn't show how to write the code.

  • I watched that video. That's just the statemachine and not a good represenation of a full VPL. Unity supports statemachines, but VPL are seperate plugins.

  • Videos won't tell you much. That is why I said have to get working copy before my own apprehensions are dissolved (And I have a number) but it looks promising.

It will have to be a completely code free, drag and drop editor like construct 2 or else Unity will always be the goto software.

Unity is already the goto for 3d and eventually 2d, but it is nice to not have to code sometimes - lol.

  • I got into the beta. Not such a big fan. They showed the state machine as being very simple to use but when I had a look, I couldn't seem to figure it out (I did manage to make a sphere emit smoke though). The buttons, sliders, etc aren't that well labelled so I find that I have to just try everything to see what it does. Another thing is previewing. It's not such a big deal, but pressing Play doesn't automatically switch you to the main camera. You have to go to the top and choose the correct camera in the display list to view from there. Now that I think of it, that's actually pretty useful. You can easily switch between the OrbitCam and Main Camera while previewing the game. Also I'm not entirely sure if real time shadows work properly, or if I have no idea how to make them work.

I think I'll be sticking with Unity for 3D stuff

  • Agreed, also in beta - Unity3d is a better option.
