Space graphics,sprites / ideas.artists block help!

  • I am currently working on a side view RTS, with a working title of Colony.X

    So far so good, I'm pretty happy with the way C2 is shunting everything about,I have done some graphics for some unit types and the odd building, but I have totally ran out of ideas particularly regarding the buildings and the visual upgrade.

    So I am asking for help, be it old sprite dumps you have knocking about, unfinished work / concept art, I don't expect it all done for me,as long as you don't mind me editing it to suit my need but all help greatly appreciated.

    I do want it to fit into the style and scale of my existing graphics obviously, so I am posting a screenshot of some of the stuff I have done so far...

    In need of..

    Buildings,

    civilian dwellings, liquid storage compound,barracks,communications, long range blowing stuff up device!!

    airport,garage / factory,HQ...Anything I have not thought of...

    Units,

    Droids,tanks, trucks, ect ect looking for ideas in general so anything you think is a good idea to point me in the right direction, I am suffering total artist block on this...

    buildings can only be 256x256 max and units 128x128 max size

    The spacemen in the picture are 64x32

    So if anybody has anything unwanted that you feel will fit in,any links or ideas or want to throw some help in,that would be great...

  • pixel, Nice man, glad to see and RTS, hopefully this will become a genere in the Scriia Arcade. I would have it be a a game where Earth is trying to collect astroids for resources. The rockest lessen the mass of the asteroids, then the rocket sends astronauts to collect and explore the asteroids. This is bassed on the news Nasa is using a new ion plus Engine to potential, build ships to bring back asteroids to the moon's orbit. Add a Sun factor, and bam, educational non-violent RTS game.

  • BurningWood - I too would love to see more RTS related projects, if I had the know how I would make one, my Isometric tutorial is going to target graphics for such a game though so hopefully it will give programmers and other devs the know how to create the art for such projects, as there isn't too many free assets out there for such a genre.

    @Pixel Perfick - I am interested to see how this turns out, I would ahve offered you some help when I first saw this post up but I didn't have the time to reply fully... I'm going to help Sulli out with some platformer tiles and then I can probably give something a try, but I don't want to make any promises =]

    I do have a character that I created for my project, but I decided to change up the style and I am sure you could find a use for it, I only have the static sprites and a run animation for it but it's in a very similar style as the soldier as I used that for the base, it's an astronaut though so it would probably fit into your scene if you tweak it a little... I will present the static sprite preview just as soon as I find the damn thing lol. If you like it, when I have time I will finish up the run animation and possibly a few more... It would actually be good to see it used as otherwise it would literally just sit on my HDD until I found a use for it.

    As you say, not enough RTS or tactic based games at all on C2 as I've seen, and very few resources for this genre, especially from this perspective, I will be sure to keep you up on progress...

    This is exactly why I have started writing up a full walkthrough to creating Isometric game art, with pixel art in mind and not just buildings or a couple of tiles but a wide variety of things... Hopefully some people will follow the whole thing through and make some kick ass RTS titles with Construct =]

    I will get to that sprites animations too, the run wasn't finished, I needed to add detail to a few more frames and I can easily add some more to it, I just need to finish up some other things and I already offered to help another member of the community (Sulli) once I have that and my work out of the way I will gladly contribute that asset fully animated, (I'm sure you don't need it right away anyhow?)

    Thanks for the offer, I really will be taking you up no that eventually... =] Right now its just more art and a little documenting on my part though.
