Plane Replace Effect

  • Just another stupid effect. I wonder why this simple effect is not included with Construct2. This effect allows user to interchange red, green and blue color planes (if you just want to change a color, use the built-in "colorchange" effect).

I made this effect for a helper app for colorblind people like me.

    <img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ADnojjGw3PM/UuvA_dnYQdI/AAAAAAAAAhA/NKV2qW5zSx0/s320/daltonaid_examples.png" border="0">

    Download effect here

    Parameters:

Source R (default 1) - Source plane to take red color from.

(1 for Red, 2 for Green, 3 for Blue).

Source G (default 2) - Source plane to take green color from.

(1 for Red, 2 for Green, 3 for Blue).

Source B (default 3) - Source plane to take blue color from.

(1 for Red, 2 for Green, 3 for Blue).

  • I don't think this is stupid effect at all.

You provided a great way to enable colorblind people enjoy c2 games much easier.

  • Well, if you can enable support for colorblind people in a game, first step is design: always mix shape with color (i.e. in a bubble shooter game, bubbles should have different shapes according to their colors).

You can "simulate colorblind" by applying a "red from green, green from green" effect to all objects.

(You can't use this effect to "prevent" color blind side-efects with games unless your game uses a limited palette. I use this effect to turn red to blue, but it is at the cost of clearing blue color)

  • I wouldn't consider this stupid effect, every games should have options like "Colorblind Mode" share us your experiences please!

  • Thats actually a very good thing to have.

I did a master designer course for webdevelopment several years ago, and one of the things high on the list of priorities was giving support for disabled people such as colorblind, blind, deaf dyslexic, etc etc

Its was a large part of the course, and though you hardly used it, it was one of the more important things, "knowing"   how to adress the issues.

In HTML it started with the alts, and titles for images, in order for blind people to have their screen reader read out the alternative names and titles.

But this went a lot further, from ease of use approaches, to using icons/buttons with imagery depickting its function.

    I applaude your efforts   <img src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> , though motivated from selfish reasons !!! <img src="smileys/smiley3.gif" border="0" align="middle" />     (just kidding <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />   )

    Nice work
