  • What your wanting looks more like a trail, rather than just plain particles.

What he is asking for is tangential allignment of the sprite to the flight path. Trails would be kind of useful too but are different and would probably be overkill for an emitter.

You can do it in C4D even with the basic emitter. Don't need to use thinking particles for this.

  • here's an example of particle sprites that rotate toward their trajectory

Thanks, had a look at it.

Exactly. The image showed just one particle's trajectory for the sake of clarity, but it's about ALL the particles.

Yeah, that would be like particles on top of particles (which is available in those pro packages as well, but surely overkill here). Also - trails were pretty easy to implement and seem pretty resource friendly as well:

Just doing some testing and about 4 to 5 objects at any given time are enough to make a serviceable effect (looks better in motion).

Also - those tiny missiles can be used to illustrate the point - if they always faced straight up or rotated randomly it wouldn't look right, same with certain particle effects, hence the wish for this option.

Not the versions of Maya or Max that I have. Partials just spew out. if you add gravity they fall with the head still facing up. And from a lonnng time ago at least old lightwave did not either. Particles do not normally rotate with gravity.

    Post an example please

.. just did 3 quick tests with particle illusions and not one did. But that program is a special case. It is just 2d glitz.

Then you're doing it wrong *shrugs*.

No I am not. LOL Particle Illusions is a 2d application it is just pixels that have behaviors and are not affect like the topic suggests.

But other posted examples prove me wrong Especially the Cinema 4D. WOW what a great new feature. I may have to try and get my boss slip that in to the budget. I always wanted to try Cinema 4D.

    Bows graciously to all

Actually I was replying to this comment of yours.

But since you admit you're wrong, no harm done.

P.S. particle illusion is far more than "just 2d glitz" too.

  • I've used Particle Illusions 3 and yes it's there.

In fact, it's pretty much in every design software with particles I've ever used.

Doesn't mean it has to be in here, though design software is for offline, not realtime. They also have perfect collision response and they take a lot of time to render.
