Animation: add angles

This forum is currently in read-only mode.
  • In the Animation-pane, when pressing right button, it's possible to add an angle.

I'm requesting to add the option: "add all angles".

So that all angles from the pull down (0, 45, 90, 135, etc degrees) menu are added, when selecting this option.

  • Btw Ive been wondering can u select angle 1,2,3.... to 360 and not just 45 and 180 etc.

  • When the object is facing a certain angle, it uses a different animation. This is highly useful in isometric games, where an object can face all eight direction. Like this:

That is eight directions, different perspective in each. That is a LOT of spriting to do - eight different animations and that is for one type alone - walking. Add standing, running, affliction, casting, dead animations... Well, you quickly run into dozens of animations. Your artist isn't going to love you after the time.

But if you use purely top down or side perspective, you can simply rotate the sprite or flip/mirror it respectively. You have to justify the need for additional animation angles.

It is irrational to expect to be able to use angles in increments of 1... because for each angle you'd require an animation; that would amount up to 360 animations for all angles. FOR ONE ANIMATION TYPE. Add death, running, sleeping, drunk animations... The artist is dumping you before you even mention the idea to him.

So, what is your justification for this request?

  • Who knows what could be done with it.

Also, remember that we've got 3d software now and that we could create those characters in 3d (and use flat shaded pixel art as textures) and just render out the different perspectives for each animation type.

This is not as tough anymore as it used to be when we really needed to paint each pixel from scratch. Creating 2d with the help of 3d is a very viable option these days, especially for stuff like this.

I used to fucking hate the fact that in 2d games my character never changed in appearance when I equipped a new set of armor or weapon. It just wasn't feasible back then to create dozens of animation phases for each and every set of equipment. But that sorta stuff could be done pretty easily with todays tech - batch setup your scene with the equipment and batch render it out over night.

  • I think he means add all the default animations, so the standard 8; top, top right, right, bottom right, bottom, etc.

  • well im using 3d models and I would like to have more than 16 or 32 angles.. something like 64 angles or 128

  • Just curious, what's your VRAM useage like with all those?

Correct, that is what I am talking about.

May I add this request: "set animation speed to all angles".

Now I have to do this manually.

  • Hi,

I tried to right-click in the animation pane in order to add an angle but this option was not available.

Maybe it's because I'm still trying out on the free eddition?

  • This is Construct Classic so if you're using the free edition you are using Construct 2.

Does anyone have a .cap of this?

I've been trying to find a way to make an 8-directional animation that plays a different set of animations based on the degrees of an angle but I can't seem to get it right.
