  • I also think the "Your Creations" section works nicely as is. Though it would be good with some way to find finished games, but I think that adding a new section to the forum is a bit much. I propose a simpler solution.

A stickied thread in the "Your Creations" section where you can make a post when you've finished a project. Either linking directly to the game, or the thread you made earlier for the game when it was being worked on. That way we both have a way to find completed games easier, and avoid needlessly changing the forum around too much.

And yeah, having some sort of ranking system puts a needless strain on people to work on their games.

  • Try Construct 3

  • It's called Open Topic.

Yeah I like the sticky thread

I know but in this OMG WTF thread there's no rules.

  • I think the reason there are no extra subdivisions in the forums is because ashley wants to keep the forum neat and uncluttered. there used to be a python section, but it was barely used, and so it was removed. there's no need for a new creations section, because as someone said earlier there's not a huge influx of completed games.

and an OMG WTF section.. this is the scirra msgboard. not 4chan. it seems clear that scirra is meant to be a casual/professional board. there are no overtly prohibitive rules. I for one don't want scirra to get cluttered with porn, racist humor, and shock videos. The community maintains its tone of friendly creative learning because of its basic common sense rules.

Why must any section be changed? it went from new creations to OMG WTF, do we need to find something to change? it's fine the way it is.

Agreed, look at the Newgrounds forums, mainly it's general board, too many immature members and spam, don't want that Scirra forums turn out like that either and a forum section called "OMG WTF" sounds retarded to me and attracts idiocy.

I agree with Lucid ,But this was just an idea.Yeah lavawave that does sound retarded ,And Completed games are almost non existant at the moment.Maybe when there's more games that are actually completed and more polished then a new section can open up.

  • If anything, I'm looking to remove as many forums as possible. For example I recently switched the Announcements forum to a simple link to the Twitter feed, because as a forum it was never updated, and the Twitter has better and more regular information on it.

I don't want to add any forums unless it's obvious one is necessary - I don't think it's obvious, yet, that a 'completed creations' section is necessary. People seem to be doing OK with the Your Creations forum as it is now.

I was actually thinking about merging 'Feature Requests' in to 'Construct Discussion' - there's no clear difference between them IMO. What's Construct Discussion for if not feature requests, tutorials or uploads? I'd rather have feature requests discussed in Construct Discussion and have fewer forums. What do you think? It's kind of ambiguous having them separate like this, they're two forums about the same thing really IMO. Plus, we're not focusing on new features right now, just stabilisation.

  • I vote for a more straightforward and simple organization so yea, purging those unused forums would be for the best.

However, I can't help but notice how the different forums have really blurry uses.

First are the Creations and Uploads. Obviously, the Creations are for ANY type of creation, be it in construct or not. while uploads are specifically construct files - mainly uploaded to show tech demos and bug reporting.

But this is where things get blurry, I always thought that to divide the diference of creation and upload. the creations forum would cater to ongoing projects and would have uploads that are executable, and that caps should always go to uploads because that's exclusively construct related. However seems it's not the way it works.

Basically the system is like this:

    CONSTRUCT RELATED

-if tech demo -> uploads OR creations

    -if bug -> uploads

-finished or ongoing project -> creations OR uploads

seriously that's how the whole thing works. (I checked threads on both forums before typing this.)

I know people are getting used to it but it's mildly confusing especially for newbies looking for some example caps or some real game creations.

My suggesstion is maybe it could be divided to make each distinct. Like just combine them both in a Creations forum and make subforums:

Tech Demos (generators, 3d whatever, blablabla)

Game Projects(ongoing or finished, yea we got people working on things. I don't think this would be inactive)

and Other(non construct, website, art, etc.).

Bug related uploads or help in how-to could just go to the Help/section.

Also, some of the plug-in topics. I hope there'd be a forum where updates and stuff about it could be posted. Maybe combine the add-on forum with a plugin forum.

ok i'm mention this because the 'S' topic is in Construct discussion. I mean it's ok, not that hard to find but I think 'S' belongs in a categorization whose members aren't supposed to be that lonely.

Just my thoughts so far. I'm not really complaining or saying it's bad, but I hope I helped by sharing this.

    EDIT:

apologies. I just realized that plugins really does go to the construct discussion. However, maybe a more streamlined forum or at least subforum could make it easier to access?

    EDIT:

also, the 's' topic is not only a topic about the plugin, it's a tutorial topic. so it's kinda torn between being a tutorial topic(which should go the the tutorials forum for easy access) and being a topic about the plugin. so I stillgo with the suggesstion of a subforum for them. Just a suggesstion though.

  • I've started a new topic about a forum reorg here.

Since this thread has evolved offtopic and there's a new thread to carry it on, I'm going to lock this one. Let's take the discussion to the new thread
