Construct 3 Subscription Fee Or Buy (Pay Once) Vote

  • It is kind of funny for me to think about both subsriction method and read those replies from community.

    These will be my honest opinions so it will not apply for other users;

For myself i paid something more than 500$ compare to an US citizen or 350€ for a german pal for a standart licence of C2. I am getting paid with turkish lira when i do design jobs in my country. It lost more than 40% value against foreign currencies during 2 years time. So it will be 400$ subscription fee for this year and most probaply 450 to 500$ next year when i consider my fee at turkish lira.

Min wage per month is roughly 1300 tl with 5 days of working at least 9 hours a day and 5 hours at saturdays. 100 us dollars is almost 400 tl now which was 236 at feb 2014. If our economy goes like this it will be 700$ a year subs for me in 2-3 years. So can you expect me to give half of my monthly earnings fot C3 for a year subscription?

By the way I wasn't upset about my payment to scirra guys even i didn't publish a game for sale. I am someone between hobbiest and a pro game dev who try to publish an adventure game. I have created 12 different and really unique puzzle mechanics for my future point and click game until now with C2. So it means during those years i own a licence i havent make any profit and it's not for sure that i will at all but i created some stuffs.

So for myself, subs model is not anyhow possible until i see a possiblity to make money over it. I beleive there are lots of people who bought the C2 like me and haven't earn anything at all. Also there should be people who get it as a present or with a hope and leave the software for good. I hope scirra team consider this side of the coin.

I want to ask a british guy if they pay 400 pounds for a software per year if it is for a hobby which there are different software options around there or 400 euros for a german or 400 dollars for a us citizen.

I am not whining about scirras policy or our economic situations. Just want you guys to think in others shoes. I will not sub to C3 for sure but will this help scirra any? Do you guys ever wonder why unity is free? I know you did but just want to remind.

It's your product and your decision how to earn money but you can't get my money in near future guys, sorry. It's not because you dont deserve it or i don't want to pay but its reality that i cant spend that much money to C3 or any equivalent product just for fun.

On the otherhand i am surprised to see those people saying it will worth it or not to pay C3 that money without seeing any C3s abilities. I read the post twice to see what is new for c3 but only tech stuff was revealed which people dont care to much like simpler ui (but no significant change) or browser based app which is not good at all except multi os support.

I beleive you are keeping candies for last moment and i understand you.

Hope it will rock like C2 did and honestly wishes you my bests.

Sorry for typos guys. Still wrestling with android keyboard (:

  • i'm for buy once

    sign me up!

  • Subscription.

  • Buy, I bought C2 because I didn't want to pay for subscriptions.

  • Ideally buying it would be best for users, much in the same way C2 pricing works.

  • I would gladly pay 200 to 300$ for a lifetime payment. But I'm allergetic to rental things, especially when it comes to softwares.

  • Buy

https://www.construct3.com/ states 120'000 users. That's 120k*99usd 11'880'000usd to eat.... Of course, not all 120k users are payant

hey you forget Scirra.com states 293,508 users. That's 293k*120usd 35'160'000usd to eat... to bathe in... to sleep in... to buy out Fusion 3... Of course, not all 120k users are paying But all of them on scirra.com still

  • pointless discussing it among the community at this point guys, Tom's all but confirmed they are sticking to this model no matter what.

[quote:3hnhv4i8]But just one question, while the decision is already made, lets say this model of subscription don't work as intended, would you guys be whilling to reconsider it and go back to pay-once model? Or at least that kind of discussion between you could happen?

Well yes, if the model fails we'd of course have to re-evaluate otherwise we'd be fools!

I think you are being foolish now.

You have such a large audience but seemed to have completely failed in monetizing them.

Should release Construct 3, in the same manner and pricepoint as Construct 2.

Don't offer a discount any higher than 20% off for existing customers.

Make the next incremental version of Construct (4) in 2.5/3 years from now.

The money should tide you over during that time.

The length of time C2 has been out with free updates released has been far too long, most businesses would hemorrhage money in that situation.

2.5/3 years seems to be the rate a lot of software releases new increments at.

    just my 2 cents.

Do not pressure them, and their decisions, not ours.

Let them try, if all goes wrong, they will learn their mistakes.

  • This reminds me of the petition we had recently to stop Trump from entering the UK

  • Do not pressure them, and their decisions, not ours.

Let them try, if all goes wrong, they will learn their mistakes.

What is the purpose of encouraging discussion, "listening" to a community in that case.

Who are you to dictate what I can and can't express pertaining to this subject?

I care a great deal about Construct 2, and have put far too many hours into it to watch it crumble along with its community.

I doubt they follow the philosophy of "The clients are always right", we cannot do anything due to their business decision, besides when c3 comes out, we have right to pay or not. I think the most will not pay to subscription fee.
