Hi guys. My game is nearing completion and I would really appreciate some feedback to work the kinks out. There's no sound in the game but besides some final polish, it's essentially complete.

If you play, I have some questions if you would be nice if you took a moment to answer:

    1. Was it easy to figure out the controls on your own?
    2. What was the point of the game?
    3. Was the game too easy, too hard, or somewhere in the middle?
    4. Did you run into and bugs? If so what happened and were they game breaking or excusable?
    5. At what point did you stop playing and why?
    6. What would you like to see added, removed or changed?

All questions are optional if you decide to answer any, and any additional comments are appreciated as well.

  • Sushin,

Tried to play your game, but I'm getting a 404 error. If you can fix this, I'll give it another try :)

  • Sushin,

hi, I really like the look of your game, the artwork is awesome,

right now im having some trouble with the p.c but would love to try it ..

  • It's good, looks lovely and the animations are great. I'll try to address the points one by one.

    1) The controls weren't too hard to figure out (wasd to move, left click to stab, is that it?) Although I did try the arrow keys first.

    2) The point of the game is to gather Tissue, upgrade your light, air and weapon/tool and explore ever deeper into the depths (discovering what lurks beneath)

    3) I'm not sure if it's too hard, as I don't have the time to play though without the unintentional cheating just now. But it does take a fair amount of time and effort to gather enough Tissue for the upgrades. I'm sure when music/sound is added it'll seem like less of a grind.

    4) The main bug I noticed is when I press "q" it grants me the next level of oxygen tank, on pressing it again, this tank drops off and is replaced by the next grade up, after reaching the final grade it pops off entirely. The oxygen bar overflows when refilled.

I also somehow became invincible after harassing a couple of orcas that just wouldn't quit.

This was after the previous bug. I think the final amount of damage was dealt while I was on the boat, and they were jumping over and around it.

Also in relation to that the jumping behaviour. I have seen an orca jump in to the air, turn around and come back down at me, only to repeat the process.

In regards to death, when I die I can still stab, and I drift in the direction I was going at a similar speed until I hit the edge of the map. (spinning is sometimes involved)

Lastly mines don't seem to be doing me any damage when they explode, or even moving me an inch.

    5) I stopped playing when after I finished the game (with invincibility) and running through a bunch of scenarios regarding orca baiting and mine hugging.

    6) Changes, hmm... The word "Tissue" doesn't sit right, it seem a bit disgusting, Meat isn't much better though. A Catch Value perhaps, so that it doesn't seem like you're just handing over dollops of fresh fish guts in exchange for a new torch. Which is actually awesome... for a given value of awesome :P

The knockback from some of the aggressive sea life seems excessive at times, sometimes knocking me all the way across the map (horizontally, although a orca did manage to dump me in the deep dark)

I did find myself swimming in the air, at least as far as the animation is concerned. A "surface swimming" animation might be nice, as well as a "flying through the air after having been knocked into the sky by an enraged Orca" animation. The spinning works well, but doesn't trigger all the time.

Maybe a different scaling for animal value. When I (with great difficulty) take down a great white or orca, I'd like a payout that in some what reflects the difficulty and danger of the task. The current rewards seem low for such giant fish. I do like the low catch value of the giant Jellyfish though, real-life fisherman hatred :D

Why can't these poor Orcas just EAT ME!

In summation, I'm in awe at how much effort this must have taken and how smoothly and well this runs. I only hope my own efforts can someday come even close.

Thankyou for sharing your creation, I hope my feedback helps

  • I think the graphics are really good; however i seem to die so quick I can't get into the game at all.. its prob me !

  • Sushin,

Had another try and it all worked fine, so I added some feedback below :)

    1. I found it fairly easy to work out the controls, although I think it could help to add an info box or short tutorial to show the user how to play!

    2. I thought the point of the game was to clear the mines out of the underwater habitat?

    3. It was probably a little bit too hard for a first level.

    4. I did find a couple of bugs; A. at one point my air meter glitched and the bar grew to twice its normal size. This worked out well for me as I could spend twice as long underwater. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to happen. B. when I died I was still able to carry on playing even though the screen said "Game Over".

    5. I stopped playing after a couple of tries, it was a bit difficult to reach the end with such a limited air supply.

    6. A tutorial to help get players started. A bigger air supply in the early levels (this will give first time players an opportunity to get in to the game, and get hooked on it!). And as JAC mentioned perhaps improved surface swimming animations.

Hope that helps you, and good luck with the project ;)

That's quite a lot of info. Thanks a lot!

The Q key is probably something I accidentally left in from debugging.

I will likely add a tutorial and more fish to make the game flow better.

Keep an eye on your air supply. It's the blue bar at the top left. If you stay under water too long you drown.

Hope that helps you, and good luck with the project ;)

Thanks. I'm a little worried some people aren't realizing they can go back to the ship. You can get a bigger air supply there after fishing for a bit, but I will definitely add a tutorial or something like that to let players know. Not sure why your air meter glitched but it might be because you press Q which activates a debug.

  • Hey /

First of all, your game has an awesome look.

I had lots of fun, but had big FPS problems on a low config (2cores, 1.8Ghz, chrome, 2Go ram), not on a big one.

Also, flying fish ? ^^ The whales were hilarious when flying over the boat :)

Anyway, some little bugs said by others before, but with a little polish, it's a great game !

Thanks. I don't think I can fix the FPS problem easily but I can't say the game is exactly optimized.

The whales are supposed to go horizontal but if something bumps into them (i think only the player can at this point) they might go up or down, and it sends them into the sky sometimes. I don't think I want to fix it just cause its hilarious.
