  • I am looking for feedback on my game https://melaniko.itch.io/broomstick-delivery I will eventually be making it offline only so only Chrome is supported. Firefox and Edge still work, but the text will be out of place.

Anyway take a look and let me know what you think.

Get ready for the bad sides of the game:

1 Extremely slow on a relatively old computer. I spent 10 minutes on the game in slow motion, and the level wasnt over.

    2. The witch never dies. The "W" and "S" buttons are unnecessary.

    3. When enemies die, they just dissappear. No death animation.

    4. Only 1-2 types of enemies on a level.

    5. The pink balls the witch shoots are so small I can barely see them.

    6. No sounds for shooting and killing enemies.

    7. No level select.

    8. No pause.

    9. The game doesnt have a story behind it.

    And so on...

    Good sides:

    1. Nice music.

    2. Beautiful backgrounds.

    3. Shooting things is always fun. (as long as the animations are good)

Those are my thoughts about the game. Im not saying the game is bad, Im saying that its far from finished.

    Have a nice day everyone!

  • Yes, I agree it is not finished yet. Thanks for the feedback it is very useful I wanted to make sure I was going in the correct direction. Story and animations will be some of the last things I do.

I have one quick question for you, did you end up getting license upgrade in the shop? The easy levels are way too easy, and you can in fact complete them with a profit by flying in a straight line. Many of the medium difficulty ones fix that.

FYI for any other play testers: level select is in the options menu.

  • if you have something you like me to playtest let me know, otherwise I can send a free background (or other non-sound asset) of your choosing for your own game as a way of saying thanks for taking the time to playtest.

Ok, I got the license upgrade. I played a level. It was in slow motion again. I didnt get hit a single time, and I was pressing "D" all the time, but when I finished the level the Profit was -120 g. That means your game is framerate dependent. Check this out:

    https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/67/del ... dependence

Also, I havent seen in my entire life a game that has level select in the options. Maybe level select should show after pressing the "Begin" button.

One feature request - it would be great if the player can see distance travelled and distance remaining.

    Thats all for now. I hope I helped you <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

  • Thanks, I have a good idea of what I need to do for the next update. I hope to have it out next week. I will post a link to it here when it is ready.

  • i kind of agree on some of the concerns.

for this type of game it would probably make sense to have an imposed forward speed for the player, because there's really no need to go slow or stop.

similar for the up and down, you should include more obstacles that require evading and make sure your level design makes ample use of that.

it's pretty though and quite accomplished at this point.

  • facecrime thanks for the feedback I am currently working on an update. I am currently prioritizing optimization and have managed to cut down the processing requirements by 2/3 which should help run the game on slower computers. I am currently fixed the bugs I caused by doing this.

Quick question about the difficulty. Did you get the license upgrade for the normal difficulty levels (which will be the default in the update) and did you figure out that holding down the fire button cuts your max speed in half?

Also, if you would like a background or other non-music asset you saw or would like me to take a look at your game let me know as a way of saying thanks for taking the time to give me feedback.

  • good thing you're adressing the performance, it indeed runs terribly slow

no i didnt get to the upgrade and i didn't notice the speed change mostly due to the performance

very kind of you, but i think everyone is here to check games for fun and have some nice exchange over it, so no need for compensation.

but thanks awaiting your update then

  • I am halfway through the update process and I have posted a new copy of the game at the same address https://melaniko.itch.io/broomstick-delivery Can you try it and see if your performance issues are fixed / better? You can also try turning off the particles in the options menu now.

FYI if you are looking for levels to try my favorites are 8, 11, and 13 If you want difficulty 17 and 15 are the hardest.

Its much better now! (a little bit slow on my laptop, but no one else will have that problem). I like the distance meter and the sound effects.

    There is only one thing:

When I was just about to reach the end of the level (when the camera stops moving), an enemy spawned in front of me. There was no way to avoid it.

Maybe when the witch is near the end of the level, enemies should stop spawning.

There are some other things that are level specific which I wont mention.

My current rating of the game is 4.5 / 5.

  • Finally released an update. I have been busy with work.

    https://melaniko.itch.io/broomstick-delivery

    Contains a new level:

    Desert Delight

  • I have been busy, but found some time for updates to the game:

    1. Tighter Control at Beginning

    2. More time to complete levels

    3. A new level

    4. Knock back reduced a bit

Do note that you can shoot through enemies that flash when you shoot them by hitting them 4 times. Enemies that don't flash don't die.

Anyway, I am looking on feedback on the difficultly level. Finding a good balance isn't easy.
