RPG Collision

  • So, I've managed to get the movement down (which, by the way, was tons of fun; I never realized movement was such a complex thing), but I'm having issues creating collisions with solid objects, like walls, water, etc. Could someone point me in the right direction?

  • We could point you on any direction, but it depends on which direction you want to go. You could use different settings and behaviors depending on what you want. Maybe setting things as solids when you want them to be solid (hehe) would be a start!

Tell us more about what kind of collision you want and we'll try to help you out. Explain your project a bit more : RPG can mean a lot of things.

  • Fair enough; I hadn't really considered the diversity of RPGs out there. In my case, think classic Final Fantasy, or RPG Maker (which I'm trying to get away from - too limited!). Currently I'm simply trying to master basic character movement and interaction. Movement had a tutorial, so I'm working on trying to convince my test character that he can't walk on water.

  • What are you using for movement? Construct has many movement behaviours.

Depending on your setup untill now it could be the answer differs.

  • I followed the Direction-Based Sprite Animation tutorial from the massive collection of tutorials, which I apparently can't link directly to.

  • After reading part of the tutorial it became clear you use 8 direction behaviour to move your sprite. adding objects with the solid behaviour will be the solution.

  • Okay, I'll give it a try again. I tried before and the little twerp zipped right on through! Perhaps I set something up wrong...

    Thanks for your help!

    [Edit]

I tried again as explained in the tutorial - make a sprite and paint-bucket it any colour but white. I tried whatever was first selected, which turned out to be black, as well as a blue, and my character parades right on through, with the Solid behaviour set.

    What am I doing wrong?

    [Edit 2]

So apparently resizing the sprite in the layout so that it is different from the original image is not the thing to do if you want solid to work...
