Raycasting shadows

  • Guys,

    0. how can I make raycasting shadows for my character in side view?

I have side view 2D characters and environments, not a top view, so it needs to be flatted on base of the floor shape/perspective.

    1. Is it possible to make soft and hard shadows?

    2. Does the light also change color?

    3. Is it possible to exclude sprite from the light?

Here is tech example what I am looking for (top view):

Here is another example of raycasting shadows and color changes (no construct):

This is the goal I would like to reach (shadow change in angle of the sprite):

  • 0: Sure, anything is possible.

1: See above, or buy some Viagra

    2:^

    3^

What you want to do can't be explained easily. Take a look at the line of sight behavior demo, however that's only for top view.

So basically long answer is yes it can be done.

Short answer is, its not really worth it now.

    There an example

Thanks Joannesalfa, I would prefer to see some game, which use shadow caster on walking sprite in Construct 2. This effect creates very nice detail.

and then some description how to do that.

"btw: his unprofessional answer is ignored."

  • paprik123456 There a lot of 2D games that we couldn't see nice detail of shadow, more like users can appreciate aesthetic but it's not important, It's up to your game design, you could create sprites as shadow.

I recommend you to take this tutorial, it explains everything about shadow.

  • Aside from the personal attacks, those examples still wont get you anywhere near a workable shadow caster with the perspective offset.

So in my "unprofessional" opinion, I'd still suggest waiting until it can be accomplished using webgl.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I wonder if something along these lines could be done with Spriter - doesn't it allow you to "inbetween" ?

    (not checked, just rambling)
