Does Construct 2 Need Plugins or Addons?

  • Dear Construct 2 Users,

Before i go into buying Construct 2, i have did some basic tutorials on construct 2 from courses. My Question is do i need to have plugins or addons to make my game commercially good? in terms of the behavior or events and actions for the game?

I know that game design and logic is needed, but can i do these all with construct 2 and without the plugins and addons? I noticed alot of people using addons for their games and just wanted to clarify.

    Thanks

  • The quick answer is no, but a simple plugin or addon can save you hours/days of work so they are worth looking into.

  • Most of game's logic can be done through the event system.

A lot of people use addons out of ignorance.

Some addons are actually real time savers.

Some addons bring features that the event system could not allow.

In the end it is mostly a matter of how much you master the event system itself, how much you want to learn and do by yourself and what features your project actually does need.

  • No, you don't need plugins to make a great game. You can build almost anything with the event system. However, it's a good idea to look around for interesting addons if you feel like you mastered the event system and looking for more features.

If you want sell you game on Steam with steam API you will need some plugins.

If you project needs Simplex or perlin noise you will need a plugin.

If you use hash tables you will need a plugin.

If you want to use HTML frames you will need a plugin.

If you want to use the HTML5 canvas for blitting pixels then you will need a plugin.

It all depends on your needs. You might want to try a demo version first. Then you can see what plugins are included.
