Construct 2 - Only A Toy?

Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!

I know one thing - A controller. Now you'll say "but Construct 2 has support for a gamepad (console) and keyboard (PC) and mouse..."

Okay, but if Scirra is serious with its claims that this tool can bring your games to mobiles - where are the mobile controls such as a floating controller (or what you want to call it) on the mobile screen. That's just one more example

And yet again a bad example on your part.

The How do I FAQ contains a category "Touch" in which it displays how to implement your "floating controller".

You are just expecting for a "built-in" feature, when it is actually a part YOU have to design as it depends directly on your project and is actually not hard to implement in events at all.

Moreover, once you understand how to implement it, you can only go further and implement more complex mechanics.

I repeat: €330. I expect this to be built-in. Why shouldn't I? Or do you think I'm asking too much of a "professional" product now? Thought you guys said this wasn't a toy.

(I'm aware that my disappointment shines through btw)

PC Gamepads have a standardized web API. Virtual controlers do not. Anything built-in would likely pigeonhole your control scheme.

You keep mentioning €330, thats the business license. Unless you somehow manage to make over $5000 then €330 is nothing to even be remotely concerned about yet. Otherwise, you are getting a pretty good deal at only €99.99, which you can upgrade later.

According to some people here, all the other built-in stuff (behaviors..etc) that C2 already provides actually makes it "less professional" due to it "restricting" you to certain things. But you're asking about a "floating controller" for mobile devices. Are you serious? I'm sure the C2 team can throw in an example for it in their next C2 update, but this is something you can easily put together (since C2 actually makes it that easy) within 5 minutes and apply to your game. Not only that, you can even test it directly to your mobile device right away. Yeah, its that easy for this "toy".

The more pre-built stuff an engine has brings more limitations with it. I prefer the way as it is now, which is to give the power to the developers to build what they want with logic. Including a floating controller. And as it was said before me, using the Touch object it's no big deal.

This is a game development software which has been marketed as paint by numbers type deal (which it isn't), game development is exactly that... YOU develop the game (yes, even the controllers), no software can or should do that for you, or at least none can do it to your unique requirements: So many diverse c2 creations from top of the chart mobile games right down to simple apps for disabled kids. This is truly a fantastic product. Others have built amazing mobile games, the reason you can't is, you can't.

Your disappointment seems to be rooted in you want a cookie cutter software development tool that can build the next greatest thing, well, you haven't earned that knowledge yet. It can be done, it is being done, just not by you... not yet

Having something "built in" isn't as good as you would think, it limits users, and actually does make it seem like a toy, legos.

And not the good kind either, its the kind with weird fitting pieces that only work as one thing. Like the helmet that was too loose, and always wound up backwards.

We made this with C2, and are selling on Steam:

Lego are a toy, but you can create awesome things with them, same with C2. You don't "feel" it is a professional tool, that's your prospective, but feelings dont speak: results speak.

Construct 2 is actually incredibly cheap compared to other development tools of the same caliber and user-friendlyness. You buy your license once and you're done, unless you upgrade, most other tools you need to renew a subscription, in the long run Construct 2 is a steal. And as many other people have said, you can't except a development tool to do everything for you, even if it costs money to buy it. You are the developer.

Really, lack of floating dual analog touch controls. My work has Unity licenses($70/month) and Unity has a buy price of $1500. There are no built in touch dual analog touch controls. I'm done with this thread.

Err, not a toy, I think.

    I don't think it's a toy either

    This says it best.

Mr X wants a cookie cutter software... and mr x will leave and never do anything of value like so many others. Its a shame really, all it takes is hard work.

it's really funny how people call this product a toy, or whine about how bad it is, or such stuff, and they haven't invested nor 50hours in it at least.

i've invested half a year in a game, and soon it will be finished, and that's just a starters game. Also made together with a guy.
