  • Hi,

dont know if this was asked before, but are there any plans for a C2 Version for Creating Games directly on Mobile Devices?

I would love to work on my Apps when I am outside and no Windows PC available.

    Thank you,

    xeed

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • From what I've read we might get that in Construct 3. Maybe. But that's a long way's out and as stated by Ashley in the Latest Podcast and elsewhere on the forums C3 is just a vague idea at this stage. All development is dedicated to C2 currently.

  • I think the main problem is just: how do you cram all the UI and features of a relatively complex piece of editing software like Construct 2 on to a tiny screen? Would it even be useful even if you could do it, compared to the speed and precision of a mouse and keyboard?

  • Ashley

For mobile phone not so much. For tablets then yes and there is less loss screen realastate.

As an example is a cloud based developement platform. Offering some good ideas on property tools and still offers code based programming.

Construct Event system is far more appealing and appropriate to touch based development. Also if as a situation C3 is designed to use a web front end where the visual looks were done by css/js calls. Then the community can figure out layout mods for phones with a tiny real screens. Scirra focuses on tablet/desktop community works on the rest.

    Then there's goocreate

    http://www.goocreate.com/

which is web version of Unity. Allowing developers to make HTML5 games on a website. Which then of course allows good mobile devices such as tablets access to the same tool set.

And of course as you know there is a shift in the use of computer. People are using tablets now for just general use and as technology advances the use of a desktop will become less and less. People will start using tablets and docking stations to be more common. C2 big strength is that it's designed for a lower end developers. Making sure that C2 is in that area sooner the better.

Anyways I should listen to that podcast.

Implementing an interface that allows for coding on mobile is a hard issue, but "layouting" (changing level's order, moving enemies around, editing a tilemap, etc) not so much.

Maybe an argument for construct 3 having the layout editor as a separate program?

  • I think getting the UI of C2 itself into a browser should not be that hard.

Also the resolution the tool is displayed at does'nt matter. If the user got low-res screen, he needs to zoom a lot.

Anyway, Just like jayderyu said, this adapt might become important soon.

  • Well, I am against the 2 codebase thing for C2, doing an app separately would be stupid (incompatibilities and bugs would be kind of multiplied), however I can imagine the idea of the html5 version, where you can either pin the different windows (like the property window or project window, or the layers window, like the way it currently works), or make them as side tabs, they would open when you drag them onto the center (thus, they would not be covering up the screen, and you can access them), some might say "not that convenient", stillnmore that not having a mobile version.

For the event sheet, I do not see a real problem on mobile, but even then, some people have tablets too so I see no reason of censuring one platform.

However it is just my opinion.

So in short, I am for the development of a html5 based version, to be fair I tried the webapp of gdevelop, and it felt good, not perfect, but good, and I am sure it is also doable for C2 (or whatever the name would be)
