A cool way for kids to write and practice English Alphabets

We probably won't support this until WebGL is ubiquitous.This.

General: Ashley already gave his answer about the 3D request. (...) You can discuss the matter for 30 pages, it won't change that simple fact. And this.

    And especially this.

Now why doesn't it end? And why do people, who care for 3D, download a dedicated 2D game creator and then say: "Yeah it's nice'n all, but it needs 3D." <img src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

And finally: It surprises me how extremely underestimated the workload for a 3D engine is in this thread. A team of about 100 people needed almost 5 years to offer UDK, which is still in development. I can only guess the size of the Unity team from the photo on their page, but it seems like also about 100 people. And it is developed since years, without any forseeable end in near future. Why should anyone think one man alone, or supported by 1 or 2 more persons with the money from a kickstarter campaign, could accomplish the same?

C2 is a 2D game creator for a good reason...

putting 3D objects in 2D layouts = nice platformers, nice shooters and so on

This right here. Adding new features is the easy part. The hard part is making sure it will work safely and predictably across different rigs, take care it doesn't break anything else, and make sure it can't potentially break later on or paint you into a corner in terms of adding new features. Put simple, the more features you add, the harder it gets to maintain it all. And 3D support is such a massive added layer of complexity that it could very possibly see C2 degenerate into a buggy mess that gets updated twice a year. I'm amazed that one guy is able to maintain and push out new updates every week for C2 as it is.

"I'm amazed that one guy is able to maintain and push out new updates every week for C2 as it is"

maybe that's the problem too? One guy can't handle everything

There could be more coders if:

-it was priced more like all other game making soft/engine so at least 500$ but preferably 1000$ entrance fee (license)

-it had upkeep cost. You know all major software has paid yearly updates when they change release version to another major number (1.x,2.x,3.x)

So yeah, not gonna happen unless we all are willing to pay a lot more in order to get even better maintenance. Honestly im surprised how well development of this tool and how mature it is.

I said many times: let Scirra implement some native ads (with LeadBolt or any other serious mobile ads network), let Scirra take 10% of income generated this way, but *just do anything* for Android developers. Because now it's profitable mainly for paid iOS apps.

so I prefer to pay more and earn more, than just hear about "future" or bugging Ludei for support or begging mobile ads networks to support C2, lol.

I don't think it needs to go full 3D like unity (though that would be amazing), it would just be cool to eventually have basic 3D support like Construct Classic had (sprites can have Z depth and act as meshes, 3d box object etc).

Giving it 3D support of any degree will not help you create better games. Imagine all the awesome 2d games out there that players enjoyed alot and also sold enough to make their creators happy. It's not about how many dimensions it has. I am pretty sure a good mind can make a best-selling 1D game. (pseude 1D, that is.)

If you still want 3D, there are alot of frameworks / programs out there that do it. Just pay their price and do it.

And Construct 2 is awesome to boot. I am working on something extremely complicated for about a month now, and it's helping me in all fronts. It's a great combination of ease of use and power. Giving it 3D will probably break that balance.

And if you still want to use a 3D model, you can pre-render it to 2D and use it. I know it has limits, but it works.

Personatly i use Construct2 as it is made for 2D games (i've buy shiva3D and unity 3D too but for 3D).

The choice of HTML5 is not but very limiting the output potential on mobile (well futur is coming better and better but it's long too wait :p).

The only thing for me that construct 2 can do for doing better 2D is to have more easy way/plugin to add new modern 2D because actually thing like light, shadow, bump mapping ect... are hard to handle with it (and so easy with a 3D engine (but 2D setting it's worth)).

Actually Construct2 is working great and is easy to use and setup for basic 2D game on mobile.

For 2D PC game, it could be a great piece of software too but the actual design need to be tweaked to continue to be greatly integrated with the editor.

Construct2 need to keep is 2D only desing and the easy way it have draw to use.

It just have to extend this 2D to become more usefull for AAA 2D game on high machine.

ps: the sprite support was a really great choice of the extend for AAA game ;)

I would use other game engines to make 3D but they simply don't have this user friendly event sheet programing and I suck at learning how to code in those. But one thing that could be interesting for construct to do is generate the actual code sheet of the event sheet to just view how it actually looks for educational reasons. Perhaps that could help none coders learn some basics about coding that can be then used in code necessary engines like the 3D ones?

+1 for the idea and to be visible only for the developer of the game...why not? very educational!!

Yeah it's really a good idea and it will help a lot in the learning process.

I dont like the idea but isn?t it possible to create a plugin for c2 which supports 2.5D objects ? This should be possible.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

There's no such thing as a "2.5D object". 2.5D is a term used to describe using 2D and 3D gameplay elements and art assets together. The assets themselves are either 2D textures or 3D models.

You can create a plugin to do almost whatever you want if you know Javascript well enough.

I dont wanted to write Object, I wanted to write Game ;) I know what 2.5D means, I tought it would be possible to create with a plugin a 3D background/layer so the game would be 2.5D
