    I’ve been using the built-in parallax system for a long time, it worked fine for 1 or 2 backgrounds, but when you try doing anything serious with it, it feels incomplete and painful to use.

    I needed to have multiple backgrounds, each with its own scrolling rate. So I had to make like a hundred layers and fiddle with their properties. No way, that’s way too tedious! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked">

    I needed my backgrounds to stretch across the screen to give the illusion that the game world was infinite. After many hours wasted on the event sheet, I was so frustrated and my code could barely work. What a pain in the a$$! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_surprised.gif" alt=":o" title="Surprised">

    I needed my backgrounds to look good no matter the zoom level, but as soon as I changed the layout size, everything went bonkers, and I needed to re-write my events from scratch. How aggravating! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt=":oops:" title="Embarrassed">

    I also wanted to add animated torches and smoke in the background. I needed single objects that don’t stretch or tile around the screen like the sun, a windmill in the distance or a planet in a top-down space game.

    I needed more control over my backgrounds. And I believe you do too.

    The Parallax Addon for Construct 2 and Construct 3 will help you painlessly add layered, parallax-scrolling backgrounds of all kinds in your game.

    The addon is made of 4 behaviors. They were designed with ease of use and simplicity in mind.

    It feels amazing finally being able to have beautiful layered backgrounds in your game without spending like a gazillion hours juggling events and layers.

    List of Features

    • Includes behavior files for Construct 2 (.c2adon) and Construct 3 (.c3addon).
    • Supports animated (Sprite-based) and non-animated (Tiledbackground-based) backgrounds.

    • Supports screen wrapping in all directions in two distinct modes: stretching and tiling.

    For your question, I made the backgrounds for demo purposes only, but if you like them you can modify the images as you wish and use them in your personal or commercial project, I have no problem with that.

  • A small bug that prevents you from using expressions in the ParallaxBG for Sprites plugin has been fixed, the updated version of this plugin is pending approval and should be available soon.

    If you don't use the expressions of the ParallaxBG for Sprites plugin, you will not encounter the bug.

    Please re-download the plugin and re-install it to be able to use expressions.

    Right now the plugin only works in C2. A C3 version will be released soon with a substantial update, but I don't have a release date yet.

    Edit (April 27, 2018): The new version 1.2.0 has C3 behavior files.

    I'm offering the addon for free, and I'm also selling it. Both version are exactly the same.

    This allows me to :

    • Give back to the community. I know it's cheesy but it's true. I wouldn't be the developer I am today if not for the kindness of people around these forums and the people who made Construct.
    • Allow people to support my work, since I spend a ton of hours coding, doing QA testing, writing the manual, making demos, etc. I'm doing this professionally, I'm not a hobbyist, I want the money to build even more beautiful games, addons, etc. All the funds I make on the scirra store are directly reinvested in better software, better art, better tools, game dev books and courses, better equipment, etc.
    • I want to advertise my products by offering my flagship product for free. I'm very proud of the work I've made on Parallax Backgrounds, Health and FSM. I want more people to use them in their games.

    It's how these forums work. This thread was automatically created after I published the addon to the store, while the other thread was already there, so I ended up with 2 of them. I just roll with it

    I don't care about the logistics, what matters to me is answering support questions properly and getting feedback to improve the addons.

    You don't need to bother reading both threads, I'm compiling everything in the PDF manual that ships with the addon. So you can safely redirect your OCD to building pixel perfect structures in minecraft, or fuel efficient rockets in Kerbal Space Program

    • Added Vertical and Top-down scrolling/screen wrapping
    • Added the Parallaxer behavior for single background objects like the sun, a cluster of trees, a windmill in the distance, or a planet in a space game.
    • Added the Spacing Y property to the ParallaxBGSprite behavior.
    • Now it’s possible to set/get the parallax anchor and the tile size.
    • Added more demos and updated the old ones
    • Updated the manual with more illustrations, better explanations, and all the feedback received over last year.
