Lizards are dumb. Really, REALLY dumb.

  • Okay... maybe that isn't fair. Perhaps there are certain breeds of lizard that can be trained and taught tricks. I'm not talking about those lizards. I'm talking about Anoles, and they are certifiably braindead.

I enjoy biking and there are plenty of places close to where I live that are nice to ride through, but no matter where you go you have to contend with these little three to four inch lizards called "Anoles" that love to sit and sun on the sidewalk.

    The reason why I say that they are so stupid is because apparently whenever a threat approaches an Anole its brain can process one and only one response;

"Turn 180 degrees, and then run like crazy in a straight line."

All well and fine if the threat is approaching from directly in front of you.

But the ridiculous thing is that oftentimes they will be on the righthand side of the road and facing the right, so when they see me coming they panic and do the only thing that their little brains can think of, which is to run directly underneath my tires.

If they had stayed still, or better yet... ran forward they would still be alive. But nooooooo. Evolution can't be bothered to take notice of large, moving pieces of metal and rubber.

So... Anoles are dumb. Really, REALLY dumb.

  • You ran over a poor, defenseless lizard?

  • Hahaha. Natural selection in progress. I bet a pigeon could out-stupid a lizard though.

  • We don't have wild lizards here, but the pigeons, I swear they play Chicken with the cars, it looks like they're gonna get run over and they fly away at the very last second. Are they dumb with quick reflexes, or really smart, mocking us stupid humans with their quick getaways?

If you've ever seen a pigeon attempting to eat a lump of bread the size of its own head, you'd probably agree we could eliminate option B.

  • Maybe they're just over-ambitious.

Like flies trying to break my ceeiling?

  • Lizards arn't the only dumb species...I met a really dumb human today!

I was driving along and had to stop at the traffic lights, and I noticed a guy was starting to cross the road (he was on his mobile phone). He looked left and looked right and then started to cross the road in a straight line. At this point I had stopped my car coz I had reached the light...and I noticed he started heading towards my car.... I expected him to turn to either go in front of my car or behind my car (since I was stationary) and guess what he did...he walked into my car! bumped into it! nearly fell over too. And then he was like 'sorry mate' and walked around it. It was like something the AI in crysis would do!

Just goes to prove that Crysis has more realistic AI than anyone imagined.

    Hahahahah... that cracked me up.

I'm probably being hypocritical for feeling bad about running over lizards when it never bothers me to run over insects. I did accidentally run over the tip of a snake's tail a few months ago and it was pretty awful... the poor thing was rolling around in obvious pain and there was nothing that I could do for it but apologize, which did nothing to ease its pain and made me look like a buffoon at the same time.

Buffoon... now there's a word that doesn't get tossed around enough.
