  • Hi to everybody.

I'm just releasing details of a new music creation tool that i have built with the superb

    'construct'.

Bbox pro is a new and unique tool for anybody wanting to learn how to create and perform 'Beatbox style' music. It allows you to spontaneously, compose, create, improvise, and edit your musical ideas. It?s all done in a completely visual, drag-and-drop design environment. You simply choose kicks, hi-hats snares andvocals from drop-down lists, then move and copy things into place using your mouse.

  • That's pretty awesome actually. I had considered making a fl studio like music creation tool myself, but then I realized I'm already in love with fl studio.

Anyway, back to this..Is this a commercial app?

And I can't tell from the vid, is it a 4 track limit? Or do the rows get wider?

Glad you like it the app

Its not a commercial app at the moment, iv'e basically put it on youtube to get feedback!

(if you know anyone i can approach with regards to making into a commercial product, let me know?

With regards to the track question, most beatbox routines are made up of grooves.

Each groove contains 4 beats, so i built it around that. (i hope that makes sense)

    eg/ this is a typical pattern -

    groove1 groove2 groove3 groove 4

    (b / t / psh / t) (b / t / psh / t) (b / t / psh / t) (b /t psh /t)

if you want anymore info, let me know.

    regards,

    chris

  • Thats awesome. I hope you post an app demo even if you do go commercial. Are you making it just for beat box or will it be usable as a regular drum machine?

    Hi MisfitByte

The program uses a collection of Live Human Beatbox sounds and vocals, and electronic sounds,

you can also drop your own sounds in, so it can be used for both.

I am going to post a demo tomorrow .

  • You gotta expose this program a few places! I cannot believe you made this in Construct, that's . . . amazing!

  • Hi everybody.

I finally got round to making a demo version of the beatbox music creator that i have been

    working on.

If you download it and you find any bugs or problems, will you please post details on this thread.

    many thanks

  • tried it for a few minutes, and got a few criticisms meant to be constructive (no pun intended)

first, is just a suggestion/opinion, the demo version, maybe saving disabled would be better than letting someone only make half a beat. There are alot of ultra-polished superawesome beatmaking programs out there, with very liberal demos and trial versions. there's even some really great free one's. you would probably be aiming for a more niche indie market, but still, you gotta make it so they have fun, and make something that sounds cool. A halting half beat is only frustrating to listen to, and no fun at all. same thing with no looping, you have to get them addicted to it. this would be the equivalent of having a racing game demo, where the car was limited to 20mph, and you weren't allowed to finish a lap. once again, just an opinion, and it's not like I've ever sold software before.

next, would be the ease of use. not sure why the choice the choice to have little squares above the rectangles with the "wav" file names with the abbreviated names. but the little squares seem like they should be right clickable, too. maybe a way to preview them in the dropdown list as well, perhaps right click again?.

the preview sounds in the bottom left are useful, but it seems like you should be able to right click them to automatically assign them to the last selected slot on the beat maker to the right, also even after realizing I couldn't do it, I kept trying to drag the files from that list onto the beats. if you need some help on how to make something from the listbox drag and droppable, I'd be glad to help. on the interface note as well, being able to hold the tempo change button to change the tempo continuously would be useful, and also, being able to click on the actual tempo number and type in a new tempo would also be good.

I couldn't pinpoint when it happens, but its definitely not all the time, but sometimes i think it rushes between the 16 and 17 beat and plays the 17th beat too early. after switching to several beats, and switching back it had righted itself.

I think it's cool that it gives help to noob beatboxers. in general, it seems like a nice little app, and I wanted to throw a quick beat together and post it, but all the demo limitations, as well as the interface issues made it a frustrating process.

the basis of a fun tool is there, though, and I think you should keep at it

  • Hi Lucid

Thanks for you post, i think your right about some of the restrictions on the demo version.

I am going to change some of them, and i will look at some of things you have pointed out.

Thanks for your imput. (i will try and post details tomorrow)

Most of the stuff that im hoping to include in the final release is in this one.

The last version (Beatbox pro) had too much stuff disabled, so i have left most of the features working in this one.

    NEW

Random groove \ pattern generator, with different 'seed' setting(Nightmare to implement)

Tabs added for selecting the library list boxes.

    New interface and buttons.

    Loads of new Demo's

    Loads of new sound samples

    Restriction

Saving is enabled but limited to 2 files (just delete or move them from the saves folder!)

Multi loop play isnt working 100% so i disabled it.

Make sure you read the help section because the sound box editing has changed.

Oh..and the help isnt finished yet, but the basics are explained.

Right i'm probably boring you to death now, so i'm going to bed.

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15858089/Interface.png">

Please post details of any bugs, problems.

    regards
