Why not finish MENU object...its so basic

  • I know you've more then likely touched on this topic more then a handful of times but why is getting the Menu object such a low priority...I've been using Construct for a very long time and keep hoping with each new version that the Menu is going to be implimented...disappointment again.

There it is...System-->Menu Item Clicked....but "Invalid System Condition Referenced" darn it.

I realize I can easily make menu structures with sprites and layouts etc. but a quick windows-type menu system will speed up delevopement of many of my non-game projects.

Seems to me creating quick menus would be at the top of the list.

Anyway I love Construct and find it amazingly useful....thanks all that contribute.

  • I keep asking myself why don't they just finish what they start?

You put in the Menu Editor and reference it in SYSTEM ... have you just forgoten?

I appreciate everything you do but really MENU is a basic thing and should have been

one of the first things Construct could provide with a few click... we are still waiting.

  • you made another post about this here

please don't post multiple times about the same subject, as you clutter the forums. You won't get faster replies doing this.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I dont consider any posts clutter....sorry you feel differently...if I post same thing multiple times too bad. I see many "CLUTTER" posts about nothing all the time...all posts could be eliminated if the developers had their act together and just documented their work correctly in the first place.

  • Telling people they posted multiple time could also be considered clutter...like I need someone to tell me what to do...take a hike.

  • Here have more clutter...dont like it...dont read it...oh am i wasting your precious time...too bad.

Like you got anything better to do then read this junk ... what a lamer.

  • BUT SERIOUSLY

WHY Dont they just finish the MENU feature???

  • I consider it clutter, too

also, if you have several comments/suggestions, or related help questions, it's probably a good idea to put them in one larger thread. Even if you don't mind being the guy who has 5 posts pushing everyone's posts further from the forefront. You'll find you'll get more response.

as for why the menu object is such a low priority

it's because construct is a game creator, that has some application creation abilities

completing the game related aspects of it is naturally the higher priority

all posts could be eliminated if the developers had their act together and just documented their work correctly in the first place.

while it's probably a good best practice to document features as you create them.

this is a free program created by developers in their free time.

as someone who's created some poorly documented plugins myself. I realize that in practice, you finish what you can, when you can. It would make no sense for developers to spend large amounts of time documenting something, when some of the documentation will have to be changed in future versions. I'd rather they race toward 1.0, and let the more than capable community add to the wiki. There hasn't been an overwhelming flood of wiki contributors.

But perhaps one of the newer members of the community will see a need there, and fill it. There's also sdk documentation on the wiki, so you can create and document a complete and functional menu plugin if you so wished.

  • yeah they should either add it or remove reference to it inside of construct.

I forgot all about that "feature"

  • although you were probable joking ME9876543 with those post you made.

There is on need to act that was on the forum.

    Madster dose have a point.

  • Thanks....my bad...just had an ego moment...it happens...Love to all

  • Construct is a game creator first and foremost, so application features have a low priority. We're also concentrating on fixing bugs rather than adding features (which inevitably add more bugs), to reach a stable 1.0. I'd side with removing incomplete features rather than finishing them at this stage. Also, everyone has their pet feature they really want to see implemented, and there's just two of us working in our spare time for nothing. If you need it that badly, consider hiring a developer to do it with the SDK, or do it yourself.

Don't needlessly post multiple times to a thread with comments like "what a lamer". Even if you are joking it's very easy to read it as being obnoxious. If you do it again I will simply lock the thread.

  • Hello,

Contruct is in beta. That means it's not finished yet. Please understand that there will be features that are not yet complete.

Also, this thread is not a request for Help or Technical support, moving to Discussion. Also merging with your duplicate thread.

Have a nice day, and thank you for using Construct.

Telling people they posted multiple time could also be considered clutter...like I need someone to tell me what to do...take a hike.

What you are doing is spamming the board. Please stop. One thread per topic is all you need.

I dont consider any posts clutter....sorry you feel differently...if I post same thing multiple times too bad. I see many "CLUTTER" posts about nothing all the time...all posts could be eliminated if the developers had their act together and just documented their work correctly in the first place.

Wow. You're really starting things off on the wrong foot, here. I suggest you calm down and stop trolling.

  • Why is there always a thread where someone feels strangely 'entitled' to a feature? They seem to get angry because they are denied. ME9876543, please, this is an open source project. Before 1.0 and even for some time afterwards there's no point in documentation, the program contains artifacts, and you can't always do what you want. Its the small price you have to pay to use the fantastic program that is Construct.

    /rant

If you want it that bad, download the SDK and do it yourself.

  • The menu system will most likely be finished by 1.0, and if not then feel free to throw eggs at Ashley and David and insult them despite all their hard work. Until then there is no reason to think it won't be finished.

Also until then there's no reason to keep bashing a banned user account for the very thing they got banned for (can we get Banned status tags for the author info column pretty please? ) so I will close the the thread.
