  • NICE! Been waiting for this.

    A few things:

    1. Editor does not keep size

    2. I can not seem to export to NWjs. I downloaded nwjs from within the IDE, try to export and it fails and the writing file dialog does not go away.

You need to report them to https://github.com/Scirra/Construct-3-bugs/issues

    Ok, cool. Done it.

  • Finally, now maybe I can actually take it seriously...

  • Great to see progress on desktop build of C3. I love a local workflow, for bigger projects it just makes way more sense than reliance on cloud.

  • This is working, well. Saves much faster / incremental (compared to cloud save.) I am also now using source control again, which I really appreciate for my emerging dev flow: (bitbucket integrated with HackNPlan).

  • Thanks Ashley for these first versions, and also for taking into account the problem with Ajax. It is finally possible, for example, to change the images and other files on runtime (TMX, data etc...) via NW.js, and this is for me something essential because an immense time saving for less repetitive manipulations with each sources modification and other tests.

For now, even if I keep an eye on my C3 licence, I'm forced to continue working with C2, the GUI is there, although aging and sometimes lame, more stable, faster and oriented desktop application than C3. The workspace is much larger (font size and other scaled items), windows and other interactions are stronger, less web-oriented, and there are far fewer bugs, amongst others, when using keyboard shortcuts than I use excessively in C2 (copy / paste / tab next or previous and so on, in forms and image editor included...).

In addition, previews are local and open in their own really separate and persistant window, which avoids having to click often in the taskbar to focus or resize it again and again (just another example according to the context). I hope you understand these thoughts really present in use and in practice when developing. And I hope this native version of C3 will adapt in future to a much more "software" format like C2 is.

  • Is anyone having issues with exporting to NW.js? I've posted 2 bug reports. A new update will be posted, it will work initially but after a while (maybe an 1 hour or so) it just begin to fail about 30% through the export. I get pissed an put it down, come back the next day and it will export, then as I'm working it starts to fail again. Very frustrating.

Update: So right as I was posting this I was having the problem so I decided to reboot my computer then now it works. So its looking like run c3 desktop, closing it and starting it up again somewhere in there I start to having export issues????

  • C3 is horrible when used with scripts, always giving problems with authentication ... hope you correct this, my license is near expiration and probably will not renew, 1 year of lost license and that is not cheap.

  • Do the export options really work on C3? Has anyone tried???

I only use HTML5 and NW.js and they work. Small issues ATM with NW.js but the exported output works fine, just it will crash the editor every so often for me. Bug reports have been submitted and should be sorted out soon enough.

  • Cool, thanks, how's the performance on mobile??

NP! Maybe someone using the mobile exports can chime in, I would be interested in knowing as well. As of right now, I'm aiming for desktop and HTML5 will be for demos, preview, coming-soon type of things. Desktop performance is amazing. I am totally surprised how well c2/3 + NW.js work. At 1st I was very skeptical... like "this ain't gonna work"... but it actually does.

  • Looking forward to road-testing this with version control - my no.1 request for ages!

Look forward to a Mac version so I can use it with my main laptop.

    Thanks Scirra.

+1 on Mac version, since I am switching over to that for my main dev workstation (iMac and Macbook, so xcode and deploy to iOS is simpler.) Right now I am using bootcamp with Win 10 (but switching time is a pain.)
